cruising was big around where I live in the 80's.. I used to carry a mini arsenal to collect money from deadbeats that wouldn't pay after I risked jailtime to race, I was on high risk insurance until I was 35, which was almost equal to a car payment ...I was scared of the older street racers back then, they had more money, and it takes zero muscles to push a pedal down..I depend on my drivers license now and don't indulge....much...many many old dudes like me are in the money at the drag strip, and it attracts the youngins too ...nice when they come up and chat I've made a lot of friends there, as opposed to the street.
By cruising I meant car gatherings, not looking for street racing but yeah back in the 80's the old guys had the fast cars and loved to indulge the young guys with big mouths.

I indulge my racing at the dragstrip, I cruise to find car gatherings and to release stress.

Really? Giving you the finger? What did you do before? I am not doubting you, that is just really odd. But then again I can actually believe it with a full generation of kids raised to hate success or wealth by their teachers/professors.

As to the OP: I'm 30 and a skinny toothpick so me driving my Mustang does look odd, but I never had issues with older people they were always interested in looking at my car and what I have done to it. I always try to be nice.

I never do ricer flybys, I do like to race almost anything because my Mustang isn't my daily driver so I really only drive it for fun. As for car meets it really depends on the car meet and its totally random atmosphere, I have to agree sometimes, because I was going to meets ever once in awhile through 2005-2010. I drove just my Pontiac G6 back then so I was just curious about other peoples cars. Sometimes you will go to one that is a joke and no one really actually knows about cars they just put exhaust and intake and think they are Paul Walker. While others seemed to actually take an interest in your car or will be more than willing to show you what they've done to theirs. It's still kind of like that today.

As for people talking crap that is to be expected, I have met a lot of rude Mustang owners and many times it was when I was driving my Mustang. The Cars and Coffee videos/meme's have put a big dent in the Mustang reputation thanks to idiots who can't drive them.
I need to check out Youtube for cars and coffee videos, I had no idea. Hard to believe things could change so much in just 10 years, time to adapt and see how it goes.

Speaking to the 5.0 demographic. A shipment of Mustangs came in and I was shocked to see these ones even more expensive than the previous. Now the GT Coupes are at 59 grand (Canadian) with 5.0 convertibles at 61. These GTs have the PP1 but no mganaride. These cars are double the sticker of my base V6 I bought last summer and the convertible is over double. So where did the thirty grand go cause I’m not seeing it? No kid starting out in his first job can get a V8. Ford probably wants it this way as V8s won’t be around much longer. But why would an old fart like me plunk down 60 grand on a Mustang where my first 5.0 was bought new with my first real job!

The payment for these GTs will be about 950 under a zero interest 72 month car loan alone (that’s the longest term up here at Ford). You really are better off to get the base Stingray at 73 grand and avail yourself of GMs extra long financing plus the Vette has way better resale and insurance costs.

The kids don’t get to drive the 5.0s like we could in the 1980s, So is it any surprise when they treat the middle-aged guy badly with the sparkly car they can’t get? To add insult to injury we mock them driving their ricer cars which are the only ones they can afford. And maybe that is why things are the way they are.

Rant over...

Fatguy......Atlanta area a manual 18 mustang GT with the 301A option and PP1 for $34K + $100 doc fee. Those leather seats aren’t worth an extra $2K plus they don’t hold you in place either. Slip and slide I call them. My 13 boss and 16 350 had cloth seats. Talk about kids being pissed about the cost of a new mustang gt.
I will say I’m pissed off at ford for raising the price of the ford GT from $166K to over $460K. Plus they will select the buyer. Chuck you ford ! It didn’t matter that I bought a new ford GT , no I’m not a celebrity or fool either for spending that kind of money.
Ok back on topic sorry.

Caliber Coffee, every Sunday 8am to 10am, the Arboretum of South Barrington. Well behaved crowd and lots of big money cars. Lots of stuff you'd like but can't afford. :D
Good to know, that’s only five minutes away from me. :headbang:

The local spot here in my town has a nice mix of older and younger. Mostly the older guys show up with the muscle cars and classic cars early, and the import guys show up later and stick around after the older crowd leaves, but everyone is there for the same reason and gets along great.

I've been there a few times with my Lancer Ralliart, checking out the classic cars, then hanging with the import guys after to talk cars etc. They're going to be sad when I show up in the Mustang instead (and a bit jealous). Good kids though.

Another option if you want to cruise with just other vehicles of our species, check out local mustang club cruises. Did this one on Saturday with the South Jersey Mustang Club for National Mustang Day:

In my town, the friday night cruise in turned into a joke. They used to gather at the ice cream place where the car club would set up a booth and have a DJ and pass out small awards. However, a used car lot next door took over most of the parking lot with their POS cars for sale. So it was moved to BEHIND the ice cream place, granted with no lights! So, upon getting out, walking around for one minute observing that everyone was in cliques, the DJ playing some line dance pop music - I was done with that cruise in.
