Funny thing is, he took me to the salesman I had talked to before and he told me the same thing.

ask for niko , he's by far the most friendliest and helpful sales man I've meet , and last week , I've driven a couple of them actually , my white ecoboost premium should arrive tomorrow if all goes well . there service was great with us and worked with our payment
I'll try to see if I can find him on Thursday when I get out of my second class. I was currently speaking to Danny C.

Could be that they're profiling you for credit discrimination. That can land then in hot water if you were to say something. If they didn't do that to other people your age but they did it to you, its credit discrimination.

Sales person tried to tell me that we would have to take turns (showed up with wife and two kids) - I looked at him, he said his boss said it was a requirement.

I told him I thought it was an insult. He walked inside, came back out and apologized and off we went.

I know this is an old topic but I had a dealer do this to me today and wasnt quite sure how to react. I have a credit score of over 800 the last time I checked and I have heard of too many checks actually causing the score to go down some. There is only 2 dealers in my are that have more than a couple Mustangs in stock. One dealer has about 20 or more that are mostly Roush and then there is the one I went to today. Is anyone certain about how many checks that it takes to actually make a change to your score?

Four within 2 year period. If you have score over 800 it likely is going to have very slight effect if it all, but I would laugh at anybody wanting to do credit check for a test drive.

The salesman said it was company policy. And like I said in my previous post, this place is pretty much my only local option to test drive a few to figure out what I want to purchase. By the way it was Autonation in Canton, OH.

you would need 10-15 inquiries in one week to bring your score down drastically. one inquiry doesnt hurt it one bit.

The dealer is trying to screen the drivers, but even with credit check you wont keep the miles off the vehicle. You just need to count on 50-80 miles on a stock unit. Simple as that. They just should limit the test drive to couple miles per customer and have a sales guy go with each test drive.
Credit Check is no kind of commitment, its more or less discriminiation and if anyone wanted to push the issue, they could get the dealer in deep poopoo.

Actually... It depends on the scoring model used. FICO either goes off a 14 day or a 45 day period. They call this "rate shopping". Student loans, auto loans, home loans, etc. This allows you to apply to many places, get the best rate, and have it count as one hard inquiry.

^ This comes straight from FICO and I can verify this based on our two car purchases this year.

The Ford dealer near the university I go to is requiring a credit check before you can test drive any Mustang. According to the salesman, they are trying to limit the number of miles driven on the cars before purchase and that hopefully you commit to buying it. Has anybody else had a similar experience with their dealer when wanting a test drive?
Wow, I have never experienced that. I'm surprised that has never happened to me. Plus, dealers now can usually get anyone financing even with crap credit.

Thank you. This is exactly the info I was hoping to get. I cant really write off this dealer due to them being one of my only options for test driving a few different for comparison. Ive never drove a GT so I want to drive a few with the different packages and transmissions.
