Crank key and dampener damage?

While doing my billet oil pump gears and crank sprocket we encountered this issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Car has just been a fbo e85 car.

It looks like just the key is broken. Has the dampener been off before? It looks almost as if the key was not completely set in the channel and then possibly forced when tightening up the dampener onto the crank.

I would dig out the old key and check the channel on the crank to ensure its intact, clean the crap out of it and make sure all the RTV is cleaned out. Put a new key in and make sure it is fully seated when you reinstall the dampener. You won't like the other options :-)

I did that and ended up having to dremel out the key. Had to clean the snout up a bit. Wasn't super happy about it either but I think it's all good now. Put a new new key in and had to use my buddies balancer off of his 2015 but ordered a new ati balancer. Just hope that it was what you said lol
