Hello, I just noticed a hairline crack in my carbon fiber hood. It is a hairline crack and does not appear to be very deep. When hit by the correct lighting, it is highly noticeable though.

I need to fix this immediately in order to prevent the crack from becoming too large however. Any advice on how to proceed?

Looks like clear coat crack and rest of hood is trashed with pitting etc. Sand it down and reclear?

Otherwise try some touch up clear on that crack might diminish the appearance somewhat.
No other issues with the hood. What appears to be pitting in the picture is just a very dirty hood whoops..

Is there any concern that the crack will expand?

Sand and reclear is my final resort but I’d like to try other remedies before.

It looks like a clear crack and big flake off probably from a stone impact...

Is that pitting on leading edge of scoop?
it’s not. Just a mud spot from a snowy drive.

To me, that looks like the crack has propagated from the corner as a result of (a combination of) poor vent hole trimming / sharp corner / differing thicknesses / natural stress raiser in the design :

In addition, it looks like the crack has gone done deep enough into the fibres to allow air to creep between them (i.e. a simple flat back and re lacquer wont be deep enough to hide it fully) :

Do you have any carbon repair experts that are local to you ? Maybe even someone who specialises in carbon bicycle repairs ?

Hope you get it fixed up :like:

@Tomster

Tom had a very informative thread about repairing carbon fiber wheels, so you can see a repair procedure involving a CF part:
https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/threads/how-to-repair-exposed-carbon-fiber-wheels.165033/

He may have some input or guidance to offer to you with regards to a carbon fiber repair.

All I can offer is that if the crack is not addressed and the car is exposed to the elements, if water gets into the crack, it may cause other underlying issues either with the surrounding clear or actual carbon fiber material.
