The steering column mounted holsters look pretty cool. Are they 100% concealed from view, in Florida everything must be concealed. If a cop came up to the window to issue a ticket and started shining his light around, depending on the car could make for an interesting situation.

I carry everywhere. Made my girl get a permit and she carries her's everywhere too.

Thought Florida had a pretty relaxed open carry as well?

I live near Flint, second in crime to Detroit. I have never had to show it/pull it on someone! It definitely is a piece of mind in this area.

I carry the XDs under my left leg when driving. I have a thigh holster for my right leg when driving with my Glock 23.

I keep the full-size in the glove box and the LCP in my pocket. I used to carry the 1911 IWB but between gaining a few pounds and sitting in Recaros, I've pretty much given up on that.

I need to take a closer look at mounting under the steering column or maybe on the front of the seat. Just have to be sure it's not visible in any way from outside the car.

As for actually using it, I know several people who have used a gun to defend themselves from road ragers, knife-wielding hitch-hikers, home invaders, etc. Only one fired a shot though. And the asshole who abducted my sister would certainly be dead if I had owned guns at the time.

Florida is pretty lax on the open carry..
790.053 Open carrying of weapons.—

(1) Except as otherwise provided by law and in subsection (2), it is unlawful for any person to openly carry on or about his or her person any firearm or electric weapon or device. It is not a violation of this section for a person licensed to carry a concealed firearm as provided in s. 790.06(1), and who is lawfully carrying a firearm in a concealed manner, to briefly and openly display the firearm to the ordinary sight of another person, unless the firearm is intentionally displayed in an angry or threatening manner, not in necessary self-defense.
(2) A person may openly carry, for purposes of lawful self-defense: (a) A self-defense chemical spray.
(b) A nonlethal stun gun or dart-firing stun gun or other nonlethal electric weapon or device that is designed solely for defensive purposes.

(3) Any person violating this section commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

How I had it in my cobra, not drilling holes in a brand new car. May look into gum creek.

In the waistband, I carry a snub nosed .357 five shot. It's a ruger LCR, awesome feel and fits great in your front pockets of most pants/shorts. I have a few speed loaders if needed, but normally only keep one extra one in the car. When I'm in my mustang I keep it next to my center console and seatbelt. Works great for me. Haven't had to use it thank god, but there are times I'm glad I've had it if needed.
I used to carry a Glock 23, too big :-/

Florida does not have open carry of any kind. Concealed carry only. They do allow you to unintentionally flash it without being a crime.

Yessir!! Good eye.
The 1911 is a wonderful thing, and Springfield makes a great one. Been in love with those things since I fired my first one in the Army, no other weapon quite like it.

I rarely go anywhere without it. CA was a lot more difficult with their ridiculous laws until just recently (extremely difficult to get a concealed carry permit). VA is a lot more relaxed thankfully.
This comment just completely gob smacked me... We are so far away on gun control over here.. You can't conceal carry in all states??

Amen to that. I absolutely love it. Really wanted a Remington but got this one at a great price. I'm really happy with it. Going to send it off this week to have it blued.

Is that in the holster? May try that out, I am also right handed. I have a small safe in my DD that is locked to the car with a cable if I need to leave it behind. Wonder how strong the lock is on the mustang center console? I have a real problem leaving it behind!

I use an inside the pocket holster and it fits in the center console nicely.

I dont know if they can be obtained in all states but I suspect so. It was insanely difficult to obtain one in CA until recently. FL can be done by mail for non-residents and is good for over half the country.
