Converting to e85

2015 Mustang GT Premium Convertible
I have 2015 mustang GT convertible. Thinking of converting to e85. Car is all stock other than cat back exhaust and air raid Cai. What all would I need to be able to convert and want option to switch tune backed to 93 when needed or even 87

You don't need anything but the tune unless you are planning on doing some bolt ons and a manifold. You can easily swap tunes through a device that we offer with the tune, but the fuel swap is a little more tricky. You will either have to wait till you're low on fuel (10% or lower) to make the change to the 93 or E85, and then swap the tune file through the device, then fill up. Alternatively, Lund and PBD offer a Flex fuel tune that will allow you to be able to run both fuels together in case you can't swap the fuels out and are in a need to fill up. Thanks I thought I had read with stock intake I wouldn't need new injectors.

Given your mods you don't need injectors. Upgraded injectors are recommended but not required for model years 2015 - 2017 if using the stock intake.

Is quality E-85 available in your vicinity?

Have you tested it for ethanol %? Do it. Buy a test bottle. Overpriced but convenient but you need to confirm the ethanol content. Good fuel source- continue.

Buy tune/tuning device- Personally I'd recommend an Ngauge with a Lund Flex and E-85 Tune which are packaged together. Lund tunes have a solid history with our cars and the Flex tune will allow you to run any pump gas. Purchase dedicated 93 tune later if you want.

Read instructions.

Install Ngauge and load Flex Tune.

Configure Ngauge so that alcohol learn flag and alcohol % are displayed.

Run fuel down to near empty and fill up with E-85. That will trigger alcohol learn flag to = 0 on your Ngauge.

Drive moderately or idle until alcohol learn flag = 1 on Ngauge and note alcohol %.

Start data logging and follow instructions.

Send data log to Lund and if OK load E-85 tune.

Enjoy your big boost in performance.

The Flex tune is a convenience tune designed for individuals with access to E85 that can’t find anything else to spend their stimulus dollars on.

Don’t expect a life changing experience on a Flex tune, sure you will read about the out of body experiences, and #seatofthepants dyno, skosh of timing, and improved trap time/speeds at Billy Bob’s county drag strip.

Most of the NGauges are configured with 93/Flex/E85R, then your base file to load as desired.

For E85 on a 15-17 with the mods you have now all you need is a custom tune. The only time you'll need to upgrade from the stock injectors when running E85 is if you go with an aftermarket manifold (2018 GT, Boss, GT350).

Both Lund Racing and Palm Beach Dyno can build you a custom tune file for flex fuel. So you can run a mix of pump gas and E85 without having to switch back and forth between tunes. With that said you'll see better performance from a dedicated E85 tune over the flex fuel tune.

Flex is convenient but typically has the same whp as the R, just not the immediate down low timing. Still can be a beast though.

OP avoid the 87 you mentioned just stick with the 93 or e and either go with a flex tune or 2 dedicated e85r/93 tunes.

Just saying peak numbers would be the same or close, but the down low timing is not immediate on the flex like the R. In AZ our e is scarce and is usually flex fuel which is about e54 with an occasional real e85-90 station so running R here is not optimal. But that said you can still have a build that runs strong for NA. My last dyno in April here in the desert so was not cool put down 516/454 at the wheels. While it's not earth shattering by any means it's still pretty healthy. Been running the flex only for over two years. Full disclosure those numbers were put down filling up at one of those confirmed e85-90 stations.

Not changing tunes is nice. But for all the timing available immediately you still want to go R if you have the quality fuel abundant in your area.
