To make a long story shorter: I had my headliner replaced under warranty. Since the repair, frequently (but not always), when I put down the top, I can (usually) hear an audible crunch noise and when I put the top back up, the rear molding on the passenger side (in the yellow box in the picture) is in various states of detachment. The dealer ordered and installed a replacement part, but it still does it. I swear that side of the car has a curse, every issue I've had with the convertible top has been on the passenger side, in the rear by the triangle window.

I have a service appointment for next week but just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this.

Thanks,
Joe

I've had this happen numerous times and just pop it back in as needed - ensure the weatherstrip part goes over the plastic part (and not beneath - otherwise it will continue to pop off).

I've been having a terrible time with this on mine. I've taken in to the dealer 7 plus times now and it's still not fixed. Make sure you keep and eye on your headliner too as this causes it to wear through - my headliner is going to be replaced for the second time now.

Did it start after the first headliner replacement? Do you know what they've tried? So far, we have replaced the part (made no difference) and adjusting the angle of the tabs into which that part's clips fit (just picked up car last Thursday; so far, so good). There was a post from a Ford rep in this thread; maybe try PM them and see if they can get your case escalated?

Have you had it to the dealer for repair?

It started with the trim piece snapping off 90% of the time you put the top down. So originally they replaced the piece and it did nothing but break off again. Shortly after the headliner started to wear through. So the replaced the headliner, but now it seems even worse than before. It's wearing the new headliner on both sides and the trim piece continues to snap off. I've had it in to the dealer so many times I can't even keep count. The most recent time they colored in the tears in the headliner with a sharpie (or the like) thinking I wouldn't notice. I was really disappointed. They are now currently going to have a Ford rep to come in discuss further repair. Make sure you check your back window braces too - that seems to be a common issue.

I feel your pain; mine was coming off every time I put the top down, as well. As I said, I just picked up the car last Thursday from the dealer and, so far, it hasn't happened again [yet].

The sharpie thing is unsettling, sounds like something they'd do at the dealer from which I originally purchased my car.

Thanks, I am aware of the rear window brace issue and am keeping an eye on it.

Please post here [or PM me] the outcome of your meet with the Ford rep, as I am not optimistic that my fix is permanent.

How frequently does it happen for you? KeiRodez and I seem to be in about the same place, when it happens, it's almost every time the top goes down.

At this point, since I got the car back a week ago, it hasn't happened again; keeping my fingers crossed.....

Had the top up/down multiple times over the weekend, trim/molding piece hasn't come off.

But, I still get a crunching/clicking sound as the top goes down the last 1-2 inches....

That sound is usually part of the headliner getting stuck on that same trim piece. It doesn't always make the trim pop off, but it will start to cause fraying and tears along the edge of the headliner (near where the small rear side windows are) Keep an eye out for this as well, if I get a chance, I'll post a picture of mine later.

Thanks! I have noticed what seems to be a small wear mark along the edge of the liner, passenger side (side the trim piece was falling off) right next to the small rear window; interested to see if your picture matches what I'm seeing.

I bought this car used (Ford Certified) from a dealer and I did notice that, on the original headliner, there was a small wear mark on the edge of the headliner, driver's side, near the rear window. It was very small but I thought that was unusual for a 1 year old vehicle.
