Congressional bill to prevent the EPA from being able to stop you from modding your car. It’s time to act!

As some of you know there is new wording in EPA regulations that could cripple the aftermarket industry. Aftermarket companies will go out of business, and you won’t be able to get parts anymore. But, a bill has been introduced in Congress to prevent the EPA from being able to crack down. The RPM bill (cute huh?). Please take the 2 minutes to follow this link and send a litter to your representative. Seriously, it will take you two minutes, you don’t actually write the letter.

This bill needs to happen. It effects all of us. Make your voice heard. Don’t forget, the Government works for us. They need their marching orders.

Please pass this along anywhere and everywhere you can think of. We need as many of these written as possible.

Thanks!

Jalopnik Explanation

This clarification does not affect EPA’s enforcement authority. It is still illegal to tamper with or defeat the emission control systems of motor vehicles. In the course of selecting cases for enforcement, the EPA has and will continue to consider whether the tampered vehicle is used exclusively for competition.

The EPA remains primarily concerned with cases where the tampered vehicle is used on public roads, and more specifically with aftermarket manufacturers who sell devices that defeat emission control systems on vehicles used on public roads.
McDonald said the EPA confirmed as much to his association too during a meeting on Jan. 20 with the agency’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance.

“All I can tell you is we went there with the intent of confirming whether (the EPA sought) to prohibit the conversion of certified vehicles into race cars,” he said. “They confirmed that.”

Yup they clearly state it will not effect cars used for compitition but for us people that use our vehicles on the street is who it would effect. Thats where the aftermarket males a good chunk of its money and many of us like to modify our vehicles.

Being from california i can tell you it sucks we lose a good chunk of the aftermarket already due to C.A.R.B. And narrows our choices in parts due to the cost of the process manufacures have to go though to make them legal in our state this appears it would go further.

Read my quote. It's also about vehicles exclusively for competition as well. EPA states it has domain over all vehicles originally certified for the road.
