Does anyone know the difference between "s" in the auto trans shifter and the "s" on the toggle switch?

If I remember right the "S" on the shift changes shift points to be more agressive and gives you more control through the paddles while the toggle switch adjust traction and throttle response. I could be wrong though

Sport (S) Moving the gearshift lever to Sport (S): •Provides additional grade (engine) braking and extends lower gear operation to enhance performance for uphill climbs, hilly terrain or mountainous areas. This may increase engine RPM during engine braking. •Provides additional lower gear operation through the automatic transmission shift strategy. •Selects gears more quickly and at higher engine speeds.

The toggles change the steering and driving modes.

So it makes shifting quicker? Am I reading this correctly? Better performance?

Sport mode for steering wheel makes it tighter.
Sport + mode via toggle makes more aggressive shift points
Sport 's' mode via gear transmission makes paddle use in autos.

S (sport) on the AT changes the shift strategy, holding lower gears longer, making shifts quicker and harder. When you lift off the gas, it holds the intermediate gear instead of heading immediately for 6th. As you slow more, it does automatic throttle-matched downshifts, all the way to 1st. Sounds very cool. This is a terrific way to drive a mountain road.

Also, in S, the paddles allow you to select and HOLD intermediate gears. Paddle shifts are about the same speed and severity as automatic shifts in S mode.

Sport on the toggles does two things. *Selects Sport Steering effort (heavier than normal, but the same ratio.) *increases throttle response. It does not affect shifting. (P. 166 of the Owners Manual)

So if you want the full effect, toggle into Sport AND put the shifter in S.

NONE of the settings affect the suspension in any way, despite what about half of the magazine previews seemed to think.

Tried this for the first time today driving to work. It definitely holds the lower gears longer, but then does eventually drop into 6th as you increase your speed.

The auto rev-matching is very cool... every time you slow down to make a turn, it blips the throttle up a bit as it downshifts.

At first I was bummed to have to get an auto, but with this setting, and the paddle shifters, it's a lot of fun!

I agree, I have been very pleased. The car can be very docile in D, but that's often a good thing. With the added complication of the emissions controls holding the throttle open, I know I would be struggling to be smooth with the stick. And yet in full "sport" mode, it plays really well. The "double clutch" downshifts just make me smile. No regrets here, either.
