Happened for the first time a couple weeks ago and again this morning, both times were auto started with the key fob, shut car off and start with push botton and it’s fine, both times the car had a wash (underside included) and then sat for about a day and a half in somewhat cold weather(-5 Celsius during the night) ford had checked it and “couldn’t replicate” said it was probably normal cold start procedure to warm the car on a particularly colder start. Happened again this morning and got a short video, checked the throttle body after the first time and it was spotless, got a couple other things to check but figured I’d post a clip of the video to save myself some time/energy/sanity if it is actually something that these cars will do. Any input is appreciated!

Are you on regular fuel or E85? My GTO gets a little pissy on E in the mornings when it’s cold below 35*F. I’ll hit the pedal a few times and smooth idle after that.

Just regular, and yea I’m leaning towards something just not communicating right/and or something getting stuck, one morning was like -23 C and never had an issue so I can’t see -5 being a problem, thinking maybe somethings getting wet and freezing from the car wash but I have no clue what that’d be if anything

Probably not surprising that it couldn't be replicated but it's annoying when they guess and it's not even a good guess. Don't suppose they mentioned what this 'probably normal' cold start procedure was designed to do during 'particularly colder' starts...probably not? And -5 deg C is particularly cold...in Australia.

The recording is a great idea, IMHO now that you've 'replicated it' for them they should consider having another think. Or maybe take it to another dealer.

In the meantime it might be worth changing the routine slightly to see if there's s difference ie do everything the same but come back to it at hourly intervals to see if it does it, then don't wash it and see if it happens etc.

Ahah I’m in Canada so -5 is cold enough but not terribly cold, and yea that’s the part that gets me too, just laziness I guess. They said “they couldn’t replicate it but it’s probably just what the car does to try and warm itself up, it was probably a bit colder that day so it’s probably normal” I could tell they didn’t have a clue(don’t really blame them they had no video and legit couldn’t replicate so) but to just make up a reason and say it’s normal is wild to me lol. And that’s the plan, I’ll eliminate the wash next weekend and see if anything changes. Will probably bring it up with the video to ford regardless though
