Cold Air Intake??

It's a wonder how all those muscle cars from the 60's and 70's made horse power with an open element air filter on top of the carb?

They weren’t open. They had a housing with a flex hose from the fender well going to the housing inlet.

I had a 71 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 400ci 4bbl that had duel snorkels on the filter housing.

they can afford cold air intakes also.

So when it’s 95 degrees F outside, is it still a cold air intake?

I guess I’ll call mine a CAI when the outside temp drops below 32 F.

I had a 1969 Chevelle, it had no housing or anything around the air cleaner. It was just a chrome air cleaner on top of the carburetor.

That wasn’t stock then..

All GM, Mopars and Fords came with air filter housings.

I really don’t know how the aftermarket suppliers can advertise a “cold air intake” when they are not cold air intakes! The aftermarket suppliers are lying. The air going to their filters is no colder then the air going to the stock air box...

Apparently you missed the step that said to disconnect your A/C duct to the passenger compartment and connect to the CAI...

I feel like I stumbled onto Buzzfeed or The Onion with this thread.

I get flash backs to my “young and dumb” days when I see these old air intake systems. I once owned a 1969 Olds 442 W-32. It had twin intakes running to scoops under the bumper. I had no idea what I had at the time, but then I also used to have a 1967 Camaro RS convertible, ‘65 Olds 442, ‘69 SS396 Chevelle and a ‘74 Z28. Ah, the good old days.

Pretty sure they call em the same name. No matter what the temperature is. But hey this is America. You can name your CAI Bob. If the temperature thing is f$#king with your mind.
