Just recently I've been noticing a clunk noise coming from the rear of the car when just coming to a stop and then again lightly taking off from a stop. Just before it stops it makes a "pop..pop..pop" noise. Only happens when coming to a stop and sometimes makes a slight "pop" when taking back off. Sounds like it's coming from the right rear but can't tell for sure. Haven't done anything to the rear lately so I'm not sure what it could be. Just seeing is anyone has experienced it before. Only suspension mods are BMR cradle lockout and DSS 800HP half shafts and car is a GT Premium with 3.15 gears.

There is a thread on here about halfshaft bolts coming loose causing the sound you're describing.

I think you're right. I had 4 loose on my passenger side axle. Retightened them back up. Contacted DSS and waiting on a word back from them. They have already sent me new bolts to install. Did that and a few months later, they are backing out again!

I had cradle lockout installed recently and I had the same thing happen. Mine was coming from the right rear as well, just a clunk after taking off from a stop. I didn't even have to accelerate much. It turned out to be the lower control arm had worked itself a bit loose. I took it to the shop where I had the work done and the issue was easy to replicate and they fixed it no problem.

I guess the simple fix was to re-torque the bolts?

Ive just had this sound start on my car exactly the way its described by Jeff_oddo.

Strange i haven't touched my half shafts Ive only recently put a Steeda IRS support braces on and there new rear sway bar. I wonder if my lower control arm worked its self lose it sounds like mine is making the noise from the left rear.

The noise is gone.... So the 4 loose bolts were the cause. And DSS said I can send the axles to them to inspect. Sorry... I can't take them out and send off for who knows how long and be without a car. Guess I'll re apply Red Loctite and torque again.

Would the lower control arm bolts cause a slightly different rear end clunk noise?

Just two times in over a year's time, when backing up in my garage, I have felt an initial resistance to backing up followed by a clunk or "pop" in the right rear. Felt like the right rear parking brake failed to disengage but did so when pushed through it. After this, I have no issues in either forward or reverse.

I've got DSS shafts on my GT and I'm not able to recall there being more than one large nut to lock them down with. What am I missing?

All the Allen bolts on both sides of the axle shaft need to be removed, new bolts installed with red loctite and torqued again. The origional ones were coming loose and coming out causing failure on some peoples cars
