FUCK! this is one of my biggest fears when driving ... especially in silicon valley/ SF

I always try to speed up and get out of someonse blind spot because I just assume the idiot isnt going to check before they quickly switch lanes
Yeah, I also speed up or slow down to get out of blind spots when possible. If I'm in that exact situation in the future, I'm going to slow down instead of stay the same or speed up because the other driver is in a potential snap decision situation, so I think I'd rather decrease than increase the amount of overlap with them during that period.

Ugh. That is terrible! You have any pics of the damage? How bad was it? And did you beat them with a stick? LOL.

sorry, that sucks.

normally you would want to assume the guy is gonna want to switch lanes when the left lane is backed up like that, just like what the others have suggested.

however, as you can tell from the video, the OP may have been distracted himself, since he was on the phone.

True, about the distraction. But it doesn't just have to be the phone. Coming from my 07 to my 17, I find myself easily distracted by all the bells and whistles in the car, Pandora, Car Play, etc. I have to make a conscious effort to not want to play with stuff.

Not on the phone actually, quite embarrassing but I start talking to myself a bit on longer drives.

Going faster in the empty right hand lane...

It was pretty obvious that a 'close call' was going to happen. The left lane was full, the right lane empty, and the driver was traveling faster than everyone in the left lane and was unable to slow down quickly enough to keep from being hit.
In that traffic situation, I always assume that some one on the left is going to shoot over into my lane. Notice that the truck right signal light came on after, not before. I have been just missed twice in the last month by assuming that blind idiots are in the left lane.

Here are pics, I didn't beat him but I wanted to when he excuse was "Well...there were alot of cars."

He also managed to scrape up my wheels but I don't have a good pic of that yet.

Ouch.

On the plus side, I love the culture and architecture of SF.

Would live there tomorrow if I could.

I live in an area with ample parking and no traffic.

While I do like how San Francisco looks and the stores and food, I hate the lack of parking, constant traffic and Uber drivers constantly swerving around and double parking all over the place and the constant smell of piss that most of the city has.

I have been applying to other companies outside of San Francisco for months just so I can get out of the damn city lol.

So much this, I just went to San Fran and was like holy crap. I've never been in a down town in a major city that smelled that strongly of piss. Stairwells in garages and public buildings sure, but not the whole dang city.

I guess you have never been to Houston? We have all the piss smells but without the views.

I'm in HTX, went to college in Austin. Neither has as much piss smell just everywhere as San Fran imho. Also San Fran's views are way overrated.
