I absolutely hate cleaning the PP wheels. That brake dust is the worst.

There's all kinds of products and things to waste your money on.. I just use a wash mitt and dish soap and it works fine. You can spend $20 on a wheel cleaner like sonax that will make the process maybe 20-30% easier but in the end its a waste of money in my opinion

I don't think it's a good idea to use dish soap on a surface that has wax or sealant on it, which includes wheels, particularly wheels you want to be easy to clean. Dish soap will strip wax or sealants, particularly sealants used by someone who would try to save money by using dish soap.

Sounds good on paper, but cleaning with dish soap will mean the wheels need more frequent cleaning and make the dirt harder to get off, not to mention giving up the other benefits of having them waxed/sealed. With a good sealant, almost all dirt will just rinse off with a hose.

I ended up trying some wheel coating http://www.autogeek.net/pinnacle-wheel-coating.html

Expensive, even with sales and discount codes, but have found that this stuff works. I can spray practically all the brake dust off my wheels and clean with a MF mitt and wash soap. The water just barely tries to turn color after cleaning all four rims. Before the coating, the water was black after the first one was cleaned.

Interesting. I've been wondering how well that stuff works. So if you were to spray it with the hose and/or foam gun, would the wheels look clean? Or would it just knock the brake dust off and you'd still have other grime/film that you need to wipe off?

Yeah, I'm not sure why this is such a big deal, the mitt works great, easily gets into the corners, wash with a good product and a quick dry leaves them clean and shiny.

I made this post a while back how I clean my PP wheels, still a great method that works for me using just car wash soap - also since I made this post, I put Jet Seal on them in Oct, and over the winter they have cleaned up very easy considering they get a lot dirtier and don't get cleaned as often due to the weather.

I use whatever car wash soap I am using, no issues.

Sure they have more spokes to clean but they look SO good. :)
