Hi all,

Has anyone changed the manual gear knob to a "retro" one?
What glue did you use? I would like to use glue that will allow the gear knob to be replaced again in a later stage.

Not sure if we can get the one CJ Pony are using in Oz?

I would say that it would be thread locker not glue, check out loctite.

Even in the video it shows its loctite (removable blue)

Anyways not a fan of the rousch units, much rather fork up the extra for either a genuine ford carbon fiber or a WC Latheworks.

I noticed they mention loctite in the video but not sure which one to choose as there is different strengths. Also saw some people are using teflon tape so was hoping for some advise from people who have done it here?

I used a very small amount of blue medium strength loctite, no issues removing later on.

Haven't done it on a Mustang but have done other cars. You want to use the Loctite Blue as Copie says. Anything stronger and you're suppose to apply heat to remove it. Use a minimal amount even of the blue. Little goes a long way in this sort of application.

Teflon tape shouldn't be necessary if the stick and knob are threaded (can't see the vid at work). Only time I've used Teflon is for a press fit knob to tighten it up a bit before tightening the grub screws to secure it to the stick.

I was after that old school cue-ball look. Was looking at the ones on CJ's website, then luckily came across Speed Dawg Shift Knobs. I was able to get exactly what I wanted: bright red, with running pony emblem either side, correct shift pattern, and with the cut out for the reverse lockout collar, ie no need for an ugly adapter, like a lot on CJ's. Their instructions say to use a drop or two of blue locktite (removable with hand tools), however on their website they sell a packet of brass lock nuts in various threads, one of which fits the 6G Mustang. I bought a packet of these, as they were only a few dollars, and thought I would give it a try. I thought if it was too difficult to get lined up, or worked loose, I would then use the Locktite. However, got it lined up perfectly on the second go, and had it on since January with no issues at all.

with the risk of sounding like a complete woose, did anyone else have trouble removing the factory shift knob?? I Put it in reverse and tried to unscrew it (counter clockwise) but for the life of me, that thing did not move!

I went to repco and bought medium (blue) loctite. Used about 1-2mls total, if that. Worked a charm

I've changed it with one of these - http://www.cjponyparts.com/shift-kn...-v6-ecoboost-gt-mustang-2015-2017/p/MSK402-V/ (a red one). I had to use big percentage of my muscle strength to break it loose, I thought it'll snap in 2 pieces. There was a lot of thread locker from the factory. When installing the new one, I only used tiny bit (a few drops) - it's not going anywhere.

Before you apply the thread locker onto your new one, screw it on and count how many revolutions you can make before it touches the reverse lockout collar (hold it up). Then take it out, apply the thread locker and screw it again - this time you count and you know when to stop. Otherwise, 2 things can happen, you can either pop the top of the shit knob if you go too far, or it'll prevent you from putting it into reverse so you'll have to do the whole process all over again.

Made it... The OEM knob is surprisingly heavier than the one I installed from AM

Why use red? If you ever have to get it off you won't be able to without liberal application of heat which will destroy the knob and everything plastic within a foot of it
