Hi fellow Eco Boosters,

Just looking into the characteristics of the 2017 6 speed auto EcoBoost regarding gears changing.

My car doesn't seem to change into 6th gear around town at 50 – 60 kph and hangs in 5th. Is that normal for this car. I don't know if is me or not but I thought it did cruise in 6th at these low speeds when I first got it. I can hear the engine revving higher at those low speeds.

The details are as so. I select ET mode for accurate speed and revs on the middle info display. At 50 kph it reads around 1250 RPM. At 60 kph it reads 1500. (Although its jumping up and down either side of those figures). I confirm that I am in 5th gear by clicking the RH up paddle and the gear readout shows 5. Ok, accelerating out of 60 kph and faster it then changes to 6th. Slowing down from 80 kph to 60 then 50, the gears change down the slower I go but to just 50 kph on suburban streets, will remain in 5th with those high revs.

The only thing I have done recently is reset the Sync to factory settings after getting a message something about details lost and system reset was required.

Any thoughts, or is everything ok?

TIA, Rick.

Doesn't seem out of line but mines a manual, so no direct experience. These transmissions use some fuzzy logic and learn your driving style, in particular settings. There is a reset process to restart the learning process, someone with better knowledge may be able to assist.
Regards your Sync issue I've loaded the Cyan version & latest AU maps without issue about 18 months ago.

I think the 2017 Ecoboost and the 5.0GT share the same auto box. I have GT auto and mine will stay in 5th around town too. At those low speeds 6th is too high, hence when you click the right side paddle it shows 5th and will not go to 6th. I don't think you have a problem.

Yes thanks Andrew, I did actually think that 6th gear at slow speeds didn't seem right and as you say with your manual that in 6th you would be hanging about 800 RPM?
I'll look into the learning reset. I think with my other car (PT Cruiser) that after 90 key starts it does a fresh driving regime for the fuel computer.
I've also got some info about the Cyan version and will check into it one wet winter's Saturday. Looks like there's a lot in it.
Thanks, Rick.

Thanks Craig, I'm a member of the local Mustang Club so will interrogate a fellow 2017 owner on our next run. Maybe its always done it but sometimes the mind plays tricks when driving a computer on wheels with a steering wheel. I can't wait to get a CEL. lol.
Thanks, Rick.
