Hi there,

So as the thread says, do you know if its possible to put an european (valencia) engine in an american imported 2.3 EB???

The mechanics here at ford (spain) don't want to give any warranty (and its 12k euros...) because the car is american and apparently there's no communication/link between ford america and ford europe and they say that they're not sure if an european engine will work....(if they don't know then who uh??).

And before you ask, I've tried to import a crate engine from the us, ford wont do it and most "big" companies wont ship overseas or dont provide the whole engine or can't get the short block or there's some kind of problem...
---------------------
So now the the main question is asked, I will now explain the engine problem as well as i can for those interested in the mechanical issue.

Basically after like 3 days driving the car (i bought it second hand from a guy who imported it from the US....probably big mistake, and im the middle of a lawsuit) the engine was acting weird, white smoke coming from the exhaust, weird smell, coolant deposit getting dry in hours etc..

After some tests at a ford dealership they tell me that cylinder 2 is gone, the oil is mixed with coolant and there's not enought tightness in the coolant conducts arround the engine block, also head gasket and cylinder head seem no to be tight enough, supposedly widened because excessive heat (high revs for a long period of time or something).

So that'sthe issue, I hope you can answer the question o recommend something so i can get the car fixed.

Greetings and thanks for your time!

Hello,
I have as well a US Mustang Ecoboost imported by myself in Romania -engine made in Cleveland plant - august 2016.
For sure the Europe model engine will be identical to the one you have on the car (I changed some minor engine parts on mine and I took them from the local Ford dealer).
The Ford factory don't use 2 type of Ecoboost engines for Mustangs, there may be just minor things between the cars, but nothing important. You may have a head gasket to be replaced on yours.
12 k euro looks a little expensive for an Ecoboost engine.
I can give you the contact of a US shipping company that is shipping cars and other stuff including big volume parts to Europe (my 4-th car is now on the sea with them) , for sure your price will be a good one. You can find a low mileage US engine for less than 3-4 K dollars , I found some links on ebay.

Good luck!

What’s the VIN?

Someone can run that VIN in OASIS to see if the vehicle had any warranty history or if it was a Ford Buy Back.

Did you buy the car from a US based dealership, private sale or from an auction?

I'd suggest finding a 2.3 from a Focus RS

The 2.3 used to be built in spain, all of them. A few years ago ford announced they were moving production to the Cleveland plant. Don't remember exactly when it was said and when it took place or if they moved all production or just some. Point being you may have a Valencia built engine already. If you do, you may be able to use the euro spec 2.3 as a replacement with little to no issues. I would look into it before I spent any serious money trying to get a US spec engine.

Hey cobra thanks for your answer, VIN num is 1FATP8UH5G5216453, if someone find that out it would be helpful.

I bought it from a private here in Spain.
The guy bought it in the USA while he was living there for a while and then imported it to spain. Regarding the car origin, i found out after I bought the car (i found a contract/document from the company hidden in one of the cars compartment) that it was owned by a rental car or similar in the US at some point.

That pissed me off a great deal and since then, wich was like the day after the purchase I had a feeling that something was going to be wrong and here we are.

Im in the middle of a lawsuit now, i drove the car only 180 km (dont know in miles) before it began to die...

Hey thanks for your post, i looked into it and I found this on wikipedia:

The 2.3 L EcoBoost engine is produced with the 2.0 L EcoBoost at the Valencia Engine Plant in Valencia, Spain. In March 2015 Ford announced the official production start of the all-new twin-scroll 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter EcoBoost engines for North America at its Cleveland Engine Plant in Ohio.

And in this link : https://www.americanmachinist.com/m...rcylinder-engines-at-retooled-cleveland-plant

it states that arround march 2015 they began to produce the 2.3 in cleveland, my car first plate dates from Jan/2016 so chances are the engine is american.

Here at my ford delareship they never doubted its an american engine but because it an american car they never were very interested on it so how can i know if the engine was produced in cleveland or valencia??

Thanks a lot!

I do agree with the previous comments. You can buy a used engine here in the EU and it will work in your car. I would not go with an engine from a Focus RS, because I am pretty sure some things are different that really matter.
There are also European dealers specialised in American cars that will import everything from the US. It might take a couple of weeks, but there shouldn't be any issue.
The most difficult option is buying the engine yourself (new or used) and get a shipping company to deliver this to you.

Due to customs I would try to find a used engine in the EU. Just wait for the Corona lockdown to be over and people will start driving and crashing their cars and you will find used engines.

Cheers
Falk

ps: I just found an offer on Ebay of a company importing engines from the US:

To check where your engine was produced, you need a 10 mm socket, and take off the top engine plastic cover, it's a simple 5 minutes job, just 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
You will see then the engine valve cover (rocker cover), that's another plastic cover. On the front,it must have a sticker mentioning the Valencia or Cleveland plant on it.
If at some moment the cover was changed, there will be no sticker on it.

The european mechanics from Ford are running from US Fords as there are different part numbers for the two markets and they can't find it.
I had the surprise to find that a part searched from the VIN had a price double if it was for an US car than if it was for an EU car (just used a VIN from a showroom car).
Just try finding a good Ford mechanic , no dealership and you can have the engine replaced in 1-2 days. I would go with any low mileage engine coming from a 2015-2017 Mustang.
