Center Console Heat - Possible solution?

Has anyone, especially those with MGW shifter, experienced excessive heat in center console around shifter, hand brake and/or cup holders AND tried to use black heat resistant RTV to create a seal between the rubber dust boot and shifter hole as a solution? I think hot air is entering the car through the shifter hole.

Any thoughts on why this would be a bad idea?

Remove the console and dynomat the entire tunnel then go under the car and do the same, the difference is night ad day!

i saw a thread on here where someone removed the center console and then used heat resistant tape and covered the underside of the center console with it. i will do that probably when i do an mgw swap.

Was all set to try the RTV idea over the weekend but, after taking the center console out and trying to remove the shifter (I installed MGW shifter last week), I figured out why the dust boot wasn't making a good seal. The sealing edge was twisted and had rolled over allowing hot air to come into the console area unimpeded. I don't know whether this was an install error (possible as I did the install myself) or if it happened after. Anyway, after adjusting it and making sure the seal was tight and firm, I haven't had any issues with heat. Center console is actually cooler than it was with stock shifter - probably due to the extra heat shielding MGW provides in the kit.

If you feel like you are getting excessive heat in the enter console, I would definitely check the seal on the dust boot before taking more drastic measures.
