I just had Ford rotate my new set of 275/35ZR-20 HANKOOK VENTUS V12 EVO2 XL tires when I came in for an oil change. These tires are 5 months old and only had ~5,000 miles on them. This was the first rotation for these tires

Ever since they rotated the tires I've had a really bad wobble in the car. You could see it in the steering wheel and also feel it in the seat. I took it to a shop to get the front balanced, no improvement. I still saw wobble in the wheel and felt it in the car.

I ran out of time trying to fix this and had to hit the road. I drove ~1,000 miles with this wobble, at times it was pretty bad on the highway, you could feel it in your voice as you talked. The car had sat for 1 week prior to the rotation, so I thought maybe I had a flat spot, but no luck. It never got better on this road trip.

After I got home from my trip I took it back to Ford, two times. Not once did they put the car on the rack and look at the wheels. They drove it and insisted it was drone from my exhaust (I have pypes touring....they have ZERO drone). The second visit I rode with them and clearly showed them my steering wheel vibrating, but he must have been blind and swore he couldn't feel it in the seat. He swears the issue is not the tires. Ford wanted $50 just to spin the back wheels...NOT happy

I then took the car to another shop to get the rear wheels balanced to see if it would help any. It seems to have helped a little, but it is still noticeable. I don't know what to do next. The shop that balanced my rear wheels pointed out that without a thin wall socket, they could only get their socket over 3/5 lugs without it rubbing the rim. So it seems like it isn't aligned, but I've never heard of that before

TLDR:
-New tires, first rotation at 5,000 miles
-Can feel car wobble at all speeds
-Can see wobble in steering wheel
-Can feel wobble in seat
-Car did not wobble before tire rotation
-Put ~1,000 miles on tires after rotating because it had sat for a week prior to rotation, do not believe there is a flat spot. Ford says it can take 2,500 miles for a flat spot to work out.
-I've had both the front and back tires balanced
-Wobble is extremely noticable at >70mph on highway. Once you feel the wobble and focus on it, you can feel it at all speeds. It gets slower with reducing speed and faster with acceleration.
-Wobble still happens when car is coasting and not in gear

The only thing I can think of doing next is to reverse the tire rotation and see if the wobble is still there. But if that works I still don't know what to do. I also have a set of winter wheels I can try out. Ideally I'd like to just take this to a shop and have them fix it.

Are you running the stock wheels or aftermarket?

I’d check to see if the hub centric rings all made it through the tire rotation and or none have been double stacked. Is the 5mm spacer hub centric ?

What am I looking for? The spacers are hub centric, but I'm not sure what that means. I don't believe the rims have any rings

Non-hubcentric 5mm spacers are not his problem. At only 5mm thick, the wheel will still have a bit of the wheel hub ring to grab onto. I ran non-hubcentric 5mm spacers for a few months without issue, sure the hubcentric onces are nicer, but its not going to cause wobble.

He said he had hubcentric spacers but ok, good to know.

Are you sure those are the ones you have? Those are 67.1mm hub bore and Mustang is 70.3 ... so those shouldn’t even fit over the hub I wouldn’t think.
No those aren't the exact ones, I can't find the ones I bought.
Here's the description;

If the hubring is hubcentric thats fine

you will need to use the hubring for the wheels to make sure it snug

Now you ensured you torqued all the lug nuts down to proper spec?

Did you verify and or see any issues with the hubrings any warping or such?

Also your tires are non directional or directional? ensure of this as well

Cover those bases

From the sound of it your getting shaking at 70 mph is a hubring and or lug nut torque situation.

Hey Paul

I'll need to check the torque myself. I haven't actually been hands on with this problem yet. So far I've relied on Ford and a couple of tire shops. TireRack says they're directional

If they are directional then they have a set way of rotating

Left and right you cant put a left direction tire on the right without switching the tire over to move in the proper direction.

But in this case hubrings and lug nuts check those.

Could very well be the tires. Rotate them back and see if the problem is still there. I doubt its the spacers but I'd take off one wheel just to make sure.
