I had an appointment for tomorrow to have my shifter recall replacement done. Made the appointment before virus threat started. Dealer wanted me to drop off the car and not wait for it. I would have to wait outside since waiting room, and restaurants are all closed In the area. First I thought, I don’t care I’ll wait outside in a chair with my iPad. Thinking about it again, wait! I won’t have a restroom to use or a place to eat for the day if it takes them that long to get to my car. I could bring some food but when I gotta go, I GOTTA GO! So I canceled my appointment. I’ll make another appointment when I know I can wait for it. I know some people will think I’m crazy but I stopped worrying about what people think years ago. Tomorrow might be a good day to go for a ride and get out of the house. My city has a curfew now from 9pm to 6am. Mandatory have to wear a mask if you go to food store or pharmacy or any business that’s open or be within
6 feet of another person. Crazy world is making me crazy! Well, truth is I was crazy before all this crap started! (Car crazy that is)

Makes total sense to me. If I were in the same situation, I would do exactly the same. Assuming you have no issues with your shifter, there is no reason to rush.

Good call. I would have held out as well. Wait till the Chinese virus passes and we're back to "normal".
Good luck!

Shifter is perfect no problem at all. I can wait. A few years ago I was at a dealer with a friend. He was pricing a new car. Along comes a customer driving his beat up car. He stops next to a new car on the lot and his passenger opens his door into the new car parked next to him. He put a good size dent in the door and didn't even notice or care and went along his merry way! The way I look at is, you have to take care of your own car because no else is going to! Finger prints bother me, never mind a dent!!!

My VIN was pop up for shifter replacement. But shifter in my shelby is fine, no problem. I freaked out after I looked at the shifter change procedure. I'm not going until shifter has issue or will wait until deadline, I think 2022. Don't fix what's not broken.

I put my shifter replacement on hold as well until things get better. Shifter is fine so far. Dealer is holding the new one until I'm ready. Just ordered a new shift knob and should be here in a couple weeks so what things look like then.

For some reason I was in a 'get er done' mode for several chores and tasks before we knew the virus was a threat. I guess I should keep that crystal ball!

My early to mid March accomplishments:

1. Shelby Shifter FSA - check
2. Oil change and routine service, both cars - check, check
3. Passport renewed 3 months early - check (renewals not be processed right now - not that you can use it!)
4. HVAC annual service - check (was 90F yesterday)
5. Irrigation System tuned up - check (no rain in all of March)
6. Ordered Shelby project parts - check (hood struts next)
7. Stocked up freezer with frozen lasagna - check
8. Got new mattress - check (lots o naps these days)
9. Purchased a pallet of toilet paper - check (elderly Mom insists buying by the pallet - prophetic)
10. Introduced Father Patrick to online meetings - check

So now I sit my ass on the front porch, garage door open and stare at that gorgeous shiny blue metal thing. I can do this for weeks to come.

I have 3 recalls due on my 19 GMC Sierra. They can wait.

I did look at my '19 shifter that still works fine under city driving and there is something foobar about it comparatively speaking to my old '17 one. First the reverse lockout seems to flex or be a little imprecise and it is very easy to rotate it around the shifter shaft unintentionally., It was definitely not this flimsy in my old GT350. I am still waiting to find a dealer that will let me do it myself as the dealers around me are non starters.

That's is what the FSA and new shifter will correct. Mine worked fine, and other than one missed synchro shift (crrrunch!) I had no issues. But I can say the new shifter does have a more solid feel to the left end of the gate when either rowing down to 1st or pulling the lockout ring it finds reverse. I wish I learned to drive a stick on this car. The shifter and clutch speak to me like they were made for me.

Yep, that sounds the way my old ''17 used to feel. The clutch on the ''19 has no spring and it feels way better than how the '17 felt stock.
