I live in Dubai and there is a company here called ChipCentric which does ECU tuning for various cars and they claim their tune can give the car 50 more (100Nm) lb/ft of torque and about 50 more HP.

Do you think that's really possible with a simple tune? Any downsides to doing this that might hurt the car?

ECU tuning, with corresponding bolt ons done correctly will increase performance.

You will not gain that much power with just a tune.

You may gain something like 10hp and 10tq with a tune but I wouldn’t expect more than that and you may gain less.

If you do bolt on mods (ported manifold, headers, cat back exhaust, e85) than you may be able to get 50hp increase depending on how many mods you do.

Since the mustang is an N/A V8 it’s hard to gain power with just a tune. With boosted cars a tune can increase the boost easily and increase power easier.

If you want to get tuned look into reputable companies that focus on the mustang. Don’t go with a random company that doesn’t specialize in this platform.

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer and for saving me from wasting my money. I thought it's too god to be true from just an ECU tune.

Yep. If you had a car with a turbo then it would be reasonable to gain that much.

But for 99% of n/a cars (like the mustang gt) you are lucky to squeeze out 10-20hp.

I’ve spent a ton of time analyzing the stock tune and can tell you there isn’t much room for improvement. The spark timing, afr, and cam timing leave little on the table. The best you can do is improve pedal response. There are a few hp available at 7000+ with cam timing which frankly still puzzles me a little.
