Can a Tune Change the Sound

I just bought a used 2020 Mustang GT Premium PP1. It does not have active exhaust. I took it to the dealer to do a recall and they found it was previously tuned and couldn’t program the camera so they replaced the gateway and set back to factory. Today first time driving it I noticed it seems quieter. Is this just in my head? Can a tune make it louder?

A tune will change the TONE of your car as its changing the A/F mixture ratio. So, you may be confusing a TONE change with a Loudness change.

That said I'm NOT tuned and the loudness of my car seem sot vary sometimes. I'm not sur why. Some days it will seem like its Roaring and other days it just kind of got a rumble. I don't remember anything like this on my 2003 Mach1. It's strange. Some days it just sounds louder than others.

On my Camaro Going from E85 back to 91. Definitely hear a change in sound. E85 to me is more quiet to me .Noticed this on well on my buddy's 3rd gen coyote.

In addition to A/F ratio the timing curve was changed back to stock so the engine sound will change not necessarily the volume.

I did just put 93 octane in here.I’m pretty sure the dealer put 89 which was the only tank I drove it on. I wonder if this made it sound quieter.

When I went from stock to the Ford Performance PP2 tune, the exhaust tone definitely got a little nastier. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm not getting that, first I've read that. PP1 do you have a CIA ?

It appears to be stock. I’m thinking about getting the calibration kit so maybe that will make it sounds better again.

Ya going from e85 back to pump on a flex tune is a noticeable difference in volume, especially on cold starts. The e is a little more controlled which is just another advantage on top of power and cooling that e will have over pump. Likely afr related.

Good thing with that flex tune is nice going back to 91/93 every now and then . To get rid of that mostier that E-85 Attracts. Also notice it's a bit harder to start up on the E-85 on the early cold mornings.

I would think, that the e85 being mostly alky, has a lower btu rating and slower burn.
Less spike pressure will sound different than a larger pressure spiked one. that has a faster flame front and burn.

Ok , I asked because I think. Most tunes would include some sort of a hard part to have been installed.

So Ford saying there was a tune & the car was stock, looking from the outside. The explanation of the reload makes no sense.

But a fresh factory reload cannot hurt, guy that owned the car might have had the FORScan app and mucked up the software.

Lots of wiz kids and laptops clueless, messing with things. Just cause they can, they know all about a cell phone & therefor are qualified ...... LMAO

Think again good Sir.

The engine tone would change minimally but not necessarily making the exhaust louder. Only tunes that effect the sound would be a cammed or burble tune.
