CAI and Ford Performance

There has been a lot of scuttlebutt on CAI not worth it or even loosing HP. I am curious. I ran it with the CAI from FP and have just put the stock one back on. I really cant tell any difference other than noise. Anyone have a opinion one way or another. Does the airaid help any?

Did you just put on the FP CAI and not install the tune?

The tune is required to see any real gains (if any) with this intake. Without the tune, its just sound. Its not like running the intake without a tune will harm the vehicle. They just say that to scare you into buying more stuff. Not that the tune is bad, its just marketing tactics.

Actually you can't buy the tune without the intake. You can buy the intake without the tune though. I'm in the same boat. I'm really thinking of going back to the stock intake, not a fan of the noise from the open air box. Plus FP did a terrible job on the fitment. They just use the stock intake tube and connect it to the GT350 air box. The 2 don't fit well, the stock intake tube is too long for it.

I just got a reply back from Ford Performance telling me it was ok to go back to the stock intake. In my original question to them, I asked to make sure I would retain their warranty.

That sounds good in theory but once something goes wrong it might go back to their favor "Oh were sorry to inform you your warranty has been denied due to incomplete installation". Because when your read their print for the tune and intake no where does it read it's optional.

Yeah, the engineer might be saying that as "the tune would work regardless of intake". That does not imply warranty coverage. I imagine the suits at FP corp want you to use the tune and hardware as they tested it, because if it did cause a catastrophic failure, the first thing they will say is that you used unauthorized hardware that was not tested for the tune.

I installed this kit about 2000 miles ago and I'm at 3200 now. I can really tell a big difference in power and torque. I do agree with jbailer about the stock intake tube. mine is almost touching the coolant tank. Other than that, I think its a nice upgrade.

That's when I show them their email. I mentioned it in another thread but in my email question I sent to them, I specifically asked if I could put the stock intake or an AirAid intake in and retain their warranty and that was their reply.

Would be a minimal risk anyway but I think they could technically still tell you to pound sand, and simply stick to their official tune print. Either way it would be good to know if there is any difference between both intakes in terms of performance.

Do you guys take yours cars to the dealer frequently? I avoid going to the dealer like the plague.
I got 3 free oil changes (if using synthetic) when I bought mine. I just laughed. As if I'd let them touch my car outside of warranty repair work.

Why not just pop the CAI back on when you're taking it to the dealer? Easy solution.
