Can someone explain this to me?

If I bought an s550 block off ebay, had it sleeved, put some Mahle or other brand pistons, rings, and rods in it, then put my heads/crank in it, would that be a nice strong motor?

What would be the difference between that motor and an MMR motor or some other manufacturer?

What's difference of that vs a $10,000 aluminator?

Thanks in advance.

Mahle pistons are a 4032 alloy where as other forged pistons are a 2618 alloy. There are a lot of information in the web in regards to the differences. There are trade offs to both but the 2618 alloy pistons can take more abuse; they are stronger. Also, most blocks are built with h-beam rods. They are good but when I build my block, it will have Manley pro i-beam rods; significantly stronger than h-beam. I would just go with a new block and not get it sleeved. Having a block sleeved is more than a bare block in most cases.

My build will consist of a new coyote block, new crank, wiseco pistons and manley pro i-beams.

you want to sleeve the block minimum and i would go with a sportsman or gt350 block that has more casting to it it you really plan on making some power

What does sleeving the block typically cost?

What is a sportsman block?

Can you explain in dummy terms what the aluminator is and why is so expensive?

Aluminator is expensive because it is Ford Racing. I wouldn't pay that price for h-beam rods.

To sleeve a block, it's usually a $2000 option. I really wouldn't do it unless you are going for insane power. I'm not sure about the coyote platform but on other engines there was always the possiblity of a sleeve dropping. A new block is around $1400.

I've been researching this as well... Here is another option a member here is running. They are out of stock right now,but from Ive gathered a solid company and he is very happy with the short block. I would add the better rods for additonal 800.00.. I'd be willing to bet you could get this whole setup installed for less than 6500 or so and have a bad ass motor.

This is a great price! Have them use manley pro i-beams. Below are links to 2 blocks. One is $5499 and the other $4999. Look at the parts that are used. Neither of those blocks are sleeved and both use h-beam rods which are half the price of the manley pro i-beam and will not take the abuse like the pro i-beams. The aluminator isn't sleeved and uses manley h-beam rods also.

Thanks plimmer!

What does it mean it has "provisions" for oil squirter?

Seems like the 350 block is stronger?

Would it cost more to get pistons to fit the 350 block? Or they the same for all 3 motors?

Dunno, I'm researching all this myself as well. The M50R and M52 blocks have a cast in brace on the inlet side of the water jacket, you can see if when you compare the 3 pictures.

Then the M52 block has 12mm head bolts vs 11mm.

I dunno, but I'm leaning toward a M52 block, sleeved, but then MMR claims their block is good for +2000hp, so I dunno yet.

The sportman block looks good and I like the added material. However, has anyone cracked a cylinder wall of a stock coyote block? If so, I'm curious to how much boost they were pushing.

With other platforms, extremely high boost was the main killer of cylinder walls and the blocks poor design with having thin areas in the walls. Personnally, I think that with under 20psi, sleeves and sportman block is overkill.
