Decided to make my own wastegate setup since I didn't feel like 700$ was really worth it for me. I come from the LSX world and using good quality budget wastegates is pretty normal on turbo cars. Turbos cars introduce ALOT of heat to a wastegate and they hold up fine where as a charge pipe from a blower probably sees a 150-200* max.

I will be offering this setup later on to locals with a pre welded charge pipe and everything Included for the install once I can get some track data of my wastegate combo and see how much better it performs. So far I have been 10.34 @ 135 on 3.8 pulley roughly 8.5PSI on 93. Currently I have the 10PSI Spring installed and the boost gauge is reading a hair under 10psi probably 9.5-9.7psi

Gates 100' HD belt
3.33 Pulley
44mm wastegate with included 7/10/11 spring

One thing I did do different is put the wastegate right after the blower (pre Intercooler) hopefully it will help with inlet temps and not introduce any extra air that would normally be ran thru the Intercooler and vented thru the wastegate of it were mounted post Intercooler

Looks nice.

On our set ups we do. We aren't getting rich by any means

Keep in mind. We use a quality tial or turbo smart $400 waste gate
An oem thick charge pipe which on the s550 is $100. We offer a core charge on those as well of $60

We add in a second Piece of aluminum to help support the weight and double wall tig weld the set up. So you have the extra cost of the aluminum and paying the fabricator to do it right

Then the cost of the belt, and the cost of the pulley, and the cost to ship it

Then driving to the fabricators, the packaging and boxes, the fittings and vacuum lines. It all ads up. Not to mention the web hosting, forum advertising, etc... lol. Why do I do this again? Lol

The reason we go post intercooler is it eliminates any boost drop from the intercooler out of the equation

Def can be done for less with a cheaper waste gate, and not double wall welding, i just prefer top names on something that has your engines fate in its hands. Def not making mortgage payments off these. :)

I referenced my vacuum source from the intake manifold so the gate valve reacts from the boost straight from the intake manifold and not post Intercooler. I have a manual boost controller in going to add inline with it for easy boost adjusting. Probably throw a 5psi spring in it.

If you add a boost controller that would be fine. We set them up normally for a fixed boost, keep people from blowing stuff up lol

Beef,

Not sure if you have explained before, but hope you don't mind me asking

Why is a wastegate being used instead of a blow off valve or bypass valve?

a blowoff bleeds off boost under vacuum, it's purpose is to keep the boost from backing into the blower when you let off the throttle and grenading it

a wastegate bleeds off boost under load at a set pressure to limit boost

Beef,

Thank you for the explanation. I thought this was being done as a replacement for a BOV. Didn't realize it was being used to add boost pressure control

I really like this idea, run a smaller pulley and dial down the boost with the use of an EBC, then be able to turn it up with adjustment to the EBC instead of a pulley swap. NICE

But you pulley down to get the extra boost lower in the r.p.m. but control the max boost? Do I have that right?

Correct. Pulley down so more boost sooner, but wastegate limits it to not over boost for your setup at high rpm. Best of both worlds between centri, and pd. As you get more serious, and do any drag racing a digital boost controller timed off of trans brake button released is a helluva tuning tool to take away power at first to keep from spinning. But that's a whole different more extreme world.

Yup basically how it works, in my opinion it only works good if you're staying within 4-5psi of the 3.33 pulley which is about 10-13psi. I don't see if very beneficial to spin the blower close to max speed just to make 7psi. Don't think you'll see a huge gain in torque with something like that either.

I'm going to do a manual boost controller on mine. I have one on my turbo ls Malibu and it works perfectly
