Breaks Squeaking

Hi guys,

This issue happened three days ago. It's been raining and the issue happens when the car is used for the first time after resting for about 7 hours. And it happens only when I turn (I think both times, to the left) and make a stop. The breaks squeak! I think it's only coming from the right, front side. It happens once and then not again for the entire ride.

Anyone having this issue? The car has under 700 miles! This is sad, as I had my BMW for 5 years and this never happened. Both times it was embarrassing, as there were people around my car and they all looked. The second time it happened, there were guys standing around a Camaro!!! I was coming out of the gym!!!

Please help. I contacted my dealership last night (email) and he's yet to reply. I have read the unconvincing excuse the performance breaks do this.

Please help. I didn't buy a 40k car to be embarrassed while pulling out of a parking space.

There is a fix. They have to replace your rotors with a new kind. When was your car built?

My guess is surface rust on the steel rotors. Change rotors/pads or learn to live with scrubbing the rust off the brakes the first time you stop in wet/high humidity environments.

There is a fix. They have to replace your rotors with a new kind. When was your car built?

Thanks. My car was built Jan of 2015. Does that make a difference?

Now the dreaded, "can't replicate the problem." It's a sunny day today. Just drove the car. No issue. :( what can I do about this?

Exactly, it's a brand new car! I had the (TSB) new rotors put in and I've washed my car and 0 squeal. I asked when your's was built because the TSB is for cars that were built before February 2015. So your car qualifies for the TSB if it is a rotor issue. Contact FordService on these forums and he can give you a case #. Good Luck.

Thank you. I saw the tsb number. I'll wait for the dealership to reply to message and I'll give them this report.

Question, what if they say they can't replicate the issue? It's happens twice, both times when raining and at rest for a long time.

Contact FordService. Maybe the Regional Service Manager can use his influence on the dealers to make them replace your rotors. You can also do what some of us did and record your car making the noise but in the same recording make sure you capture your VIN so they can't say it isn't your car making the noise.

Just stepping on the brakes. Go to any parking lot on a wet day - my guess is you'll see rust on 90% of the cars rotors. It's just what happens to bare steel in a moist environment. The first time you step on the brakes (with any decent speed) your pads are essentially "washing" off all the surface rust and, unfortunately, these brakes squeal for some reason.

The cars that don't have rust will have rotors made out of a different material, whether it is the extremely expensive carbon ceramic or just zinc plated.

If you really wanted to replicate it on a sunny day, put a spritz of bleach on your rotor and wait ~20 minutes. The bleach will oxidize them real quick. I definitely do not recommend doing this.

When other vehicles I had in the past rotors' rusted, they wouldn't squeal, but braking the first time from 20+mph they would bite real hard and sometime cause other, scarier, noises.

It can on new brakes...but I have no answer for you on your second question. Should be even on all the brakes, unless they receive some kind of coating at the factory and its lasting longer on the other wheels.

I was having the same issue. But for me it was a constant noise when I would brake at very slow speeds and would turn to the left. The noise only came from one rotor.

Yeah, our problems are slightly different. Mine hasn't happened today. It's a sunny day. I'll see again tomorrow and when it rains next.
