Breaking in a new GT

So my car has just under 1,100 miles on it, I got it about a month ago. When my salesman handed me the keys he said to realistically push the car hard, that way it breaks in and is used to being pushed. I haven't necessarily listened to him as I've been pretty conservative with driving (I still average 12 mpg). I have let it rev up to around 6k in third and fourth gear doing some pulls though but that's about it. Any of your salesmen tell you to break in your car by pushing it hard?

12mpg seems terrible, I drive the hell out of mine and still have an average of over 19mpg. I would get that checked lol

I learned how to drive stick on this car and by the time I got decently good at it, I already dug myself into a shitty mpg hole but were slowly climbing out its been going up

Just reset the mpg, lol.

I just varied the rpm range while driving.

I usually reset trip 2 to see but I'm going to keep trip 1. Although I usually just drive with it on the gas consumption screen or the oil temp

my city mpg is around 16, unless i get on the gas some, and then it can drop to 12.

1400 miles avg 18.7 since picking it up. Have reached triple digits more times than I care to disclose.

12,500 miles and I am averaging 19.8MPG. Not driving easy, but I also have a lot of highway miles. The opinions on break in are all over the map, I say just drive it and enjoy.

When I first got my 14 GT, I was told to make several real hard pulls and then let the car engine brake down to break in the rings. It seems to have worked as my car hardly uses any oil and on my last oil change interval of 7,200 miles, I never had to add oil and the level on the dipstick did not go down very much at all. My tail pipes also stay very clean and don't get the black residue I see a lot of other Mustangs get. Maybe just a coincidence.

I also get an average of about 22 mpg on mixed highway and city. On mainly interstate driving, I get 24-25 mpg.

12mpg sounds terrible. what if you just drive normally what do you get?
I get 21mpg on my auto.
As for breaking in, drive like you would normally drive.
I did gentle break in on my Toyota, it does not burn oil at all.
I did medium break in on my GT, it does not burn either at almost 2k miles.

I'm in New York, so it's also a lot of stop and go, plus my college and job are pretty close its not a lot of highway miles. If I go easy I can get around 16 but if I go to my family's house which is about an hour and mostly highway I can get around 23, even with the side streets and what not

Autos will get better MPG. Even if you think you are going easy, chances are you aren't going as easy as an Auto.

Yeah absolutely. I still try to shift somewhat early around 2k-2.5k rpm's and get to 6th gear as quick as possible but even then the mpg's aren't that good
