I have heard this expression a few times, "break it in".
To confirm, it merely means to:
- not go over 80-100 miles an hour
- don't go over certain RPMs
- no excessive revving and such
- wait till you get to 1000 miles

Would the above be accurate, or?

No, none of that shit. Just drive it and have fun. The only thing is to wait until the cylinder head temp is at least 190 or so, gives you reasonably warm oil to beat on it with. But make sure to go WOT, use the full RPM band, etc. These cars have very hard cylinder liners that aren't traditional sleeves, so the sooner you start bedding the rings the better.

Also do several full decells, like rev to 6500 and then let it coast down to 2000 in the same gear.

I had a professional 363 racing engine built back in 2014. The builder told me to break it in how I intended to drive it. So we gave it a few heat cycles to bed the rings on a dyno. Changed out the break in oil. Took it to the drag strip and started making pulls. Don’t baby it.

I did not do any of that I just made sure when I started my car in the morning. I'd let it warm up until my oil pressure said normal witch usaly happens around 185-190 degrees. And then I'd let her rip car has 3500 miles on it now and I've had no oil consumption issues or any other issues. That's how I've broken in all my new vehicles and have never have had any engine related issues.

Don’t cruise at a constant RPM for extended periods, varying the RPM is the right way.

Also agree it’s important to stretch it out during the very low mile phase.
