I did it yesterday. Along with making a mesh grill for $7 from Lowes stucco mesh.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191838006842?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I used two of these coupler hose joiners

http://www.ebay.com/itm/262160160594?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Two of these 45 degree silicone elbows

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191782704314?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

And 4 of these clamps.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180739903028?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I had to boil the hoses in hot water for 5 minutes to get them to stretch over the ic inlet/outlet. I also used some ky jelly because it is water based.
I flipped the support brace over and it supports the intercooler fine.
I had to drill a hole on the charge side silicone hose for the CAT. Mounted with Seal-all (thin goop) rated at 7200 psi.

Holding 20+ psi no problem with Torrie's Unleashed tune. I'm surprised I did not get an intercooler first. My car is so much stronger and consistent now.
I know it is better to buy an intercooler that was made for our cars, but I could have bought 3 of these for the price of the next cheapest solution. I'm only sharing this because there may be others that have wanted to ask but did not want to get flamed. I will post pics later.

Yes I removed the grill shutters and left the connection unplugged. No lights on dash.

the real question is why? why not just a good solid quality intercooler? anyone who uses the justification on saving money or buying cheap parts shouldn't have bought a $25k+ car. It always boggles my mind, hey im buy a nice fairly expensive car, then use the cheapest tires, oil, parts I can get on it! lol, good job modding your own setup tho.

That's because my car was actually $24k not $25k. J/k sort of. I bought it because there is nothing saying that what I bought was not quality. Sure, I may not have cool stenciling on it, but I have done my research. This piece is going to do the job. If I have to pay the difference in GT price to have GT speed, I would much rather have a GT.

I think this is awesome, looks good man.

The whole "made in china so the quality sucks" thing can be true, but I've never had an issue with chinese intercoolers.

As long as it isn't load bearing I don't see any reason not to run an eBay part.

Just noticed how bad my spelling is...i cant grammer today..... Anyway looks sweet man try and get some logs to shut people up. A 25k car isnt that expensive, hell an sti is still on the low end of peformance cars pricing. If you can afford the car and the consequences of modding it then by all means GET SOME!!!

Already went WOT on the freeway and sent Torrie the logs a few hours ago and he updated my tune for the intercooler in a flash lol. I will try out the new tune in a couple hours.

Good job man. I never saw what the big deal was in using eBay parts. Not everyone wants to or can spend $1000 on parts. Most of the guys that look down on you are using full synthetic and 93 octane on their bone stock mustangs. Most of the stock parts exhaust, shifter, springs, shocks, etc are junk anyhow. Pretty much anything is upgrade even if it came from China. Isn't our trannys cheap Chinese crap too? Just saying

I had an eBay intercooler on my srt4 and I held the stock turbo record for a while.... From what I remember there's not too much difference.

Nice. I figured there had to be a cheaper way than the little $500+ replacement intercoolers available now. I'd like to see more pics if you get time!
