So on my 2019 PP2 6spd, I went with a Stype catback. Basically 3” straight pipes IMO as the mufflers aren’t much. It was loud and sounded great, but a bit much when the cruise was set. Even moderate acceleration was pretty dang loud.
Fast forward to the 2021 10r80, I first started out with a resonator delete. I like Borla so I went switchfire. Sound increased nicely, but under hard load or cold start the OEM mufflers just had a metallic sound. To me it sounded like a trumpet while driving down the road and getting on it. The tunnel and overpass test was pretty good, but not like my 2019.
So, I had the Stype axle back installed yesterday, and it's mean now. Very deep sound, easy and moderate acceleration let anyone know the car is there, and you can hear it from a long way away. When you get to speed and/or hit cruise control, it quiets up better than the 2019 did, so I am happy there. Did the tunnel and overpass test this morning on the way to work, and it sounds great.
So, to anyone curious, it is a combo that creates a really mean sound at idle and full boogie, but it relaxes when cruising. Also, cheaper than the cat back systems, so I’m happy this go around.
I recommend almost everyone with a GT delete the resonator for more sound, but if you want to really shake things up, the Borla/Steeda/Roush axle backs will do it from what I read. The resonator was a noticeable increase in sound. The Axle backs are a WOW increase in sound.
