Blacking out under hood latch release

I am working on blacking out all the yellow warning/maintenance stuff under the hood using most of the OEM parts. Found a replacement Stant oil fill cap (less than $5) that is all black but have either painted or used brake cleaner to remove the yellow writing on the radiator and brake fluid cap. The washer fluid cap I painted matte black. I have ordered the Boomba dip stick handle in black and I will be using shrink wrap around the top of the washer fluid reservoir and dip stick tube. That leaves the last little bit. The end of the hood latch release handle that is dipped in yellow plastic. It does not just peel off and I would scratch it all up using a razor blade to remove it.

Here is the question.......has anyone successfully blacked the latch handle out?

Would coloured heat shrink tubing work ?

That looks like how they did the yellow. Can't really do that the way its tucked down in.
