Hey guys,

Just put on a pair of SVE 350R gloss black rims. What cleaner should I be using after Ive cleaner the whole car with soap and such. Basically, what should I be wiping on them to keep them shining?

Thanks,

You can wax/seal them like the rest of the car, just use a separate microfiber from what you normally use on the paint. As far as cleaners, I like the iron removing kind because it dissolves the brake dust and makes cleaning the wheel very low effort.

Wax them and then just use car wash soap. Waxing every 6 months keeps the wheels really easy to keep clean.

Always wash your wheels first, then the car, with different wash mediums.

Throw a Sealant and Wax combo on them (two different products - Jescar Powerlock & Colonite 845 are my go to's)

Keep them clean with P&S Brake Buster - It's cheap, works well, and has a rust inhibitor.

To keep them looking good - switch to carbon ceramic brake pads, I cant recommend this enough. (unless you're tracking the car)

Any thoughts on Ceramic Coating the wheels? Wheels might be a great place for it?

I NEVER use anything for the wheels. Ruined a few using expensive products supposedly for that purpose. I only use high-pressure soap from manual car washes. By hand just distilled water sprayed on a microfiber rag, and not an issue for years now. But yes, it's a good idea to apply a wax, or some other protective layer. I need to do that too, since they scratch easily. That would prevent having to rub them harder.

Hey, would you mind posting exactly what you used, and a link, if possible? And do you need to remove the calipers to change the pads, or do they slide out from behind? Hopefully the latter :D. Any tips and 'gotchas' would be appreciated.

Nope calipers got to come off, new pads likely be thicker, and pistons will need to be pushback. To install the pads and remount caliper.

There are good safe wheel cleaners, and polishes, to be had. That said one needs be mindful of the wheel finish.

Do not believe changing pads because of brake dust, is reasonable.

Only time I've seen build up is after I've pounded on the car.
And as with harder driving and faster tire wear, so goes brake pads & dust.

There are other ways excessive dusting can be encountered.

I used IGL Wheel Coating when i bought new wheels. It works great and keeps it very clean with the OEM pads.

As others has stated now i maintain it with i wax when i wash the car.

Thanks I will look into the IGL product.

To change pads you don't need to remove calipers...
Then I stand corrected Assumed the Mustang had a standard caliper design, with a spring on each end of the pad .
So the pads come out from the top then? They do for the Wildwood.

I'm a big fan of this CarPro product: https://carpro.global/catalog/hydro2-lite/

Just spray on clean wet wheels and rinse off. Keeps an sio2 coating on them for months and makes it easier to clean in future washes.

You'll thank me later. :)

If your vehicle gets weekly washes then no harsh cleaner is needed. Just car wash soap. Add a wax or sealant of your choice and cleaning will be a bit easier as well. Much safer this way

The way I roll, interested, read about ceramic wheel coating, 2 days to apply & cure ..... what a waste of T&M.

The chemicla guys ceramic coating ia the simplest ceramic I've ever tried. I bought those new wheels and i applied ceramic coating on them. Literally 5 mins per tire. Real ceramic coating. Not the spray thing. Highly suggested.

As it turns out we are both 1/2 right the rear caliper gets removed to change pads.
