I've heard of LoJack and SkyTrak but I always hear of mixed reviews. What do you guys recommend for a GPS tracker (no monthly payments) that is effective in case your car is stolen?

Must have live time feed and so forth.

+1 - I hope all they find is a burned out shell, don't want it back if it's been stolen.

that's why you get a discount when u get a lojack. insurance doesnt want to pay you what your car costs if they can recover it and "refit and refinish" it back to "acceptable working order"

Liveviewgps.com is the best. I have had many others that were disappointing. I have currently have two of their units. You can program alerts to text you for certain events. For example if your car is moved out of the geofence during a certain time. You can use the web application and track it down your self.

Except I don't have the money to get another car since I doubt they'll give me the exact 36k. So I'll lose a lot. The point is to be able to stop the theft in progress...

Whatever the difference is between what insurance would pay out and what it would cost you to buy a new car, you can be 100% guaranteed it'll cost you more in terms of the loss of value on a theft recovery vehicle.

I mean, when your car has been stolen and then recovered, they issue you a salvage title. Good luck ever trading that in.

I'm pretty sure a salvage title only comes into play after the insured owner has been paid off by the insurance company...
