Doesnt seem like its talked about much at all here but has anyone deleted the balance shaft? 18lb of rotating mass weight reduction and from what ive seen has 10hp/tq gains across the board. not sure how badly it is needed for 4cyl engines and would love to get learned up on this if anyone has some first hand knowledge!

It's commonplace on n/a Hondas where every hp counts. On this engine I'd say pointless unless your going for race car status. Uncomfortable and shaky honestly for minimal gains and shortening the lifespan of the motor mounts. I've done it on my h series engines ( 8 of them so far) ant it never made much of a difference imho. Save the money you would spend on a proper balance shaft delete (you have to tear down the motor to do it properly) and put it towards a tune or something that gives you safer more reliable power

I have a BSD on my car with a windage tray (both FFTEC) added to help control the oil since a big piece has been taken out.

I can't speak about a power difference because I had it done at the same time as the rest of my build. I can say that I've noticed absolutely zero increase in NVH compared to before my build.

Maybe I don't understand the system completely but that's my experience with them

On some motors you will add a lot of extra vibration, but the EB has air assisted motor mounts which probably help counteract that a lot better than some designs. Time will tell if it wears them out faster or not.

I believe I was first to do the balance shaft delete, and the first to make power without one. The car really benefits from a balance shaft delete especially in the rev department. On a MT car I would highly recommend it, on an AT car because you really aren't revving it, it will be less noticeable but will definitely be less stress on the engine.

I will be deleting mine as well on my build, while it's in the car.

Once my warranty time is up I will do this. Right now I could return the car to stock (other than the Intercooler in an hour. Balance shaft would add significantly to that time!

You have to remove the oil pan.

Right , a lot of engines have it run off oil pump or its part of pump, but it takes up most of lower oil pan as far as size goes . On Ford 2.3l I think it connects to back of oil pump .

The whole reason to have balance shafts is so to limit the 4 cylinder roughness at low speeds and idle . Generally 2.0l and below really don't need it IMO .
As you go up in size its more noticeable.
