Hey hey,
Last week I was doing some spirited driving on the Autobahn, here in Germany. I had been driving the car pretty hard (on and off) for a couple hundred miles (fluctuating in speed from 80 mph to 154 mph ). Anyway, I was driving and left off of the gas and had a backfire; then, immediately heard what sounded like metal hit the ground under the car and clink and clank all the way out of the back. Initially, thought the cats might have failed but that was not the case.
I dropped my exhaust this morning and saw what appears to be a large hole (in the H-box) left from the back fire. The hole in the H-box is the portion of box that directly faces the driveshaft, so I ruled the possibility of anything hitting the exhaust. My car made right around 800 to the wheel back in October. I have been stomping on this thing for the last week here and there, hope I didn't mess anything up considering there was SIGNIFICANTLY less back pressure. Whatever, it didn't seem sluggish or drive differently. Looks like I'll be taking off the cats and redoing the exhaust a little bit earlier than I had planned.
Also, unrelated, look at all that orange-tint in the cats from using (1) 16 oz can of Boostane every fill up for 5k miles
