Hey hey,

Last week I was doing some spirited driving on the Autobahn, here in Germany. I had been driving the car pretty hard (on and off) for a couple hundred miles (fluctuating in speed from 80 mph to 154 mph ). Anyway, I was driving and left off of the gas and had a backfire; then, immediately heard what sounded like metal hit the ground under the car and clink and clank all the way out of the back. Initially, thought the cats might have failed but that was not the case.

I dropped my exhaust this morning and saw what appears to be a large hole (in the H-box) left from the back fire. The hole in the H-box is the portion of box that directly faces the driveshaft, so I ruled the possibility of anything hitting the exhaust. My car made right around 800 to the wheel back in October. I have been stomping on this thing for the last week here and there, hope I didn't mess anything up considering there was SIGNIFICANTLY less back pressure:headbang:. Whatever, it didn't seem sluggish or drive differently. Looks like I'll be taking off the cats and redoing the exhaust a little bit earlier than I had planned.

Also, unrelated, look at all that orange-tint in the cats from using (1) 16 oz can of Boostane every fill up for 5k miles

On a side note what’s been your top speed there so far?

It was the same day of the backfire. I looked at my Nguage and it was at 254 KPH so 157.8 MPH then and I backed off. I just got here 3 weeks ago so we'll see what it ends up being.

Mainly, it's been my Mustang vs. the f***ing world out here lol. It seems that everyone in an BMW M series, Audi S/ RS etc. wants to have a go at my car. I get SO MUCH enjoyment from the fact that I bought it for 28k, put 20k in upgrades and continually annihilate cars that sell for double :giggle:.

That I can imagine brings you a great amount of satisfaction and big smiles I’m sure. Especially if you can see there frowns as you pull away lol .

Are you purchasing the fuel at local prices or are you getting the fuel ration coupons for Esso and BP like it used to be a few years ago?

I'm paying out of pocket for the expensive economy. For my daily and wife's car, we do the Esso station and pay US price.

Currently, I use Aral 102 on the economy. From what I've read, Aral 102 has an AKI between around 96 or 97.

The 100 octane tune I'm running isn't showing any knock so the fuel must be pretty good:fingerscrossed:

You don't walk on the autobahn; there are cars traveling over 100 mph in some places. You travel to the next emergency call box and report it.

Hope you walked back and picked up that tire-slicing piece of metal. :)

You do know there are some people that think the very same thing about the stock exhausts :)

Now if only some cars around here with annoying & intentional backfire tunes would have their exhausts (or cat's) self destruct, that would maybe put an end to this ridiculous fad.

Maybe so:crackup: . Mine definitely wasn't intentional, I have no idea what caused it.

How did you manage to get a combustible mixture of fuel and air in your exhaust system?
