Yep. There are so many individual variables that (no offense intended to the OP) the simple question of monthly car payments is meaningless. And finances isn't the only element involved – unless it's going to bankrupt you, why not spend some money to enjoy life?

Mine was about 56k a month for one month.
That's a good loan.

That said, if your car payments are greater than 7.5% of your net monthly income, you may want to reevaluate your financial priorities. $1500 in monthly car payments is minor for a person who clears $30K a month.

bro 911's got back seats. they're in the running! a used 575 maranello would be on my dream list, though.
Beautiful car that 575, but the dream can become a nightmare. The BD Rule of Thumb on Ferrari Purchases: Only buy a Ferrari if you can afford two of them.

My horde was larger than my monthly income, a car payment would kill my lifestyle. A 1500 car payment, I don't get that a month on SSDI.

My son pays about $1400 a month for his GT500. I told him he should have bought a Porsche, but he says everyone has one of those around where he lives and he wanted something different. He is also on the list for a Z06 (number 3437), which he expects to get in 2024. That should make for some interesting decisions.

I’m putting about $19k and some change down. That’s TTL + 16k. Looking at 546/mo for 60 months

A 1400 monthly payment on a Porsche isn't even a 911 model believe it or not. Everything else is for a women to drive. Happy he went with a GT500.

For a real 911 your looking at 2k+ a month.

I was more than a little shocked to see this piece in FA and it got me wondering about comparable Mustang payments. It’s hard to see how the average family can afford this.

If your Mustang is financed would you mind sharing your monthly car payment?

Heck, it seems to me that $1000/month is getting into the house payment range. But maybe I just need to get up with the times…
$1,000 a month for a house is going to be hard in most big city areas. Around here in the Chicago suburbs 1-2 bedroom apartments are $1500 a month. Most 2 bedroom townhomes around me are around $1900 a month. Of course this is renting. I pay $982 a month for my 2022 Mustang GT. I didn't put alot down, but still. I didn't plan on a Mustang costing almost 60K. My 2022 GT was 59K with a bit of a markup. MSRP was 53K. Everything is expensive to me. lol. $1000 a month is alot, but me and my wife are in our 50's no kids. My money is either saved for retirement or spent on cars.

In my area, NW of Los Angeles, renting a 1-2 bedroom apartment is $2500+/month and a 2-bedroom townhome is $3500+/month. My tiny little house (3 bedroom/2 bath) would go for $4500+/month.

It's pure insanity. Fortunately, I refinanced my house at 2.65% late last year and the thing appraises at twice what I paid for it about 13 years ago. I'd sell it and take the windfall but everything else around me is, of course, also much more expensive and I hate the idea of signing a year lease at $4500/month. Plus, there's the hassle of selling and moving, and the uncertainty about where things will be a year from now.

All of that made my car purchase seem quite simple.

$442 per month, 72 months. 7K down payment.
I was looking for a Base GT, shadow black with black acc. package, shooting for around 36/37. Kept checking the dealerships around me waiting for them to have the right car on lot.

Ended up finding what I wanted; and they had it listed at 32,700 or 33,700 (cant remember)

At the end of the day I ended up paying around 39K with tax, interest, etc.
I should be arrested for that steal.

It boggles my mind seeing these "whats yur monthly payment" vids on social media with dealership employees... paying damn near triple what I am for a Jeep Grand Wagoneer, or something else nowhere near as fun as what I have.
For that much money it should be a Hellcat, or a 911, or a GTR or something exotic and head turning... at least yur getting yur moneys worth.

How the hell can you be making a monthly mortgage payment on something so bland????

As someone already pointed out, the comments here are pretty funny. Everyone has a system or plan that obviously doesn’t work for everyone.
PS….I had no idea Chicago burbs rent was so cheap. Maybe the murder rate effects housing rental rates.
Payment survey without the particulars is pretty useless for those who understand.

LOL, a lot of the burbs are actually quite nice. Not sure what part of the burbs @mustang810 is in but where I’m at I’d say rents are $1,700-$2,300 for a new, 1-2 bedroom apartment and 2-3 bedroom townhouses rent for $2,200-$2,900. Definitely less expensive to live in most suburbs (there are a few exceptions) compared to the city. We prefer the shoosting stays in the city too ;)

He had a significant down payment. But, you are right, I have been pricing used 991 models from 2014 - 2018 and I haven't found one close to my $75k budget. Anything newer than 2017 is over $100k.

Bought my GT at what seems like just the right time in late 2020. ~$8k in discounts.

$448/mo I pay at least $500 every month to be done with it quicker.

That was like two days of work at the time.

Edit: the yearly personal property tax hurts most. Roughly $1500 this year.
