Anybody else have this issue or is the car designed like this?

Whenever my automatic climate control is set to auto, you still have to toggle whether you want a/c or not. Example, acc is set to auto at 72 degrees. It's 95 degrees outside. I still have to press the a/c button for the acc to actually use a/c to lower inside car temp. Is this normal? I was under the impression that the acc would use heat or a/c whenever it needed.

Mine's the same way, I guess it's a "feature". Every other car I've driven with automatic climate control works the way you would expect and only need to press auto.

The Caddy had a true auto temp, but the Mustang has more of a thermostat like in your house. Kind of lame if you ask me.

I've not noticed that in either my EB or GT with auto climate controls. Mine does turn ac off and on as needed, and if I press one of the AC buttons it turns "auto" off. I am 98% sure, but now I want to double check to be sure.

Does it go from AC to heat automatically when needed?

Mine does. Just verified the bahviour I indicated above. When Auto is selected, touching fan speed, or ac (max or regular) turns off Auto.

Something is not right, my AC would come on all the time unless its below 42F.
Is your ambient temperature reading fine?

I'm confused. To me, auto is where I set the temp to say, 68, and no matter what the outside temperature is, the system will switch between a/c or heat automatically and maintain that temperature without me having to touch anything.

Yes, that's how it should be. If it's hot, it will turn AC on, if it's cold it will turn heater on based on the interior temperature vs the set temperature.
Now outside temperature also plays a role in how the system should function because it can affect heating or cooling.

I have mine set in auto and the AC button lit.
It stays that way every time I start the car and only changes if I hit another button such as max defrost.

I leave mine on AUTO and for the most part the AC light is always on, even if the car determines that it wants to heat or if it wants to use the AC.

My 2011 F-250 is the same.

pretty much what Chef_jpd said.

Ambient seems to be reading correctly. I confirmed I have it on Auto. I can turn it down to 70 on a hot day(90-100 degrees) and all that happens is the fan speed increases, no colder air. This only happens with the a/c. The heat works perfectly fine. So this isn't normal for this car?

Quick question. Say you turned off the illuminated a/c button, then made sure the Auto button was turned on, then dropped the temperature down to 70 on a hot day(90-100 degrees). Does your a/c button come back on or no?

If you turn AC off after hitting auto, the AC does not turn back on. It's a feature that some people want to save gas when it's cold outside or just want some circulation.
So you are telling me if you turn car on on a hot day, hit auto the AC does not turn on? What about Max AC? Does the AC come on?
If it still does not turn on, I would disconnect the battery for 30 minutes see if it resets. Some programming is definitely buggy.
