I don't get the auto blip thing, but then again I'm a track novice. Don't you guys downshift in the braking zone prior to turn in? What am I missing?
Look at it this way, if you're on track (or the street ) at say 7,000 RPM and perform a downshift, what happens to your RPM? It goes up, right? It also feels like you just slammed on the brakes... This sudden RPM change can unsettle the car and may even cause wheelhop. This also causes undo stress to your entire drivetrain. What you want is a smooth transition between gears, hence the throttle "blip" to match RPM in the lower gear.
