Pure stock.

I'm at 2900kms and I reckon the loud button turned on at 2800, so I'm still not really sure I'm not just imagining it!

It's ok, but needs a bit more :)
Wow very lucky! Must have a hole in it or all the fibreglass has been blasted out the back as it's the loudest stock exhaust ive ever heard

They have a lovely deep burble when idling, but anything after 3000rpm they become Raspy & noisy (too my ears anyway) Still Love the sound, but I would like them to be adjustable. That's why I went this way with the Roush:)

They look great. I have been considering the same Roush system. Are you saying that with the blanking plates removed they are too loud? I love the deep sound they make in the video with the plates removed.

hey johnathan, how do you like the FP short throw shifter? did you drive the stock one for a while? thanks, tom
Hi wimbrow

I changed the shifter after only 500 kms so no too long on std. Shifting is slick but I have more transmission noise which might be down to a Whiteline Transmission mount I did at the same time. I will remove the mount to test at some stage.

Cheers

I will be interested to hear your thoughts, this is currently my first choice.
I 2nd this, I am really interested in a system with an adjustable volume, the Varex seems to be best option but I was a little concerned re sound when exhaust is turned down low, sounded a bit raspy. If you could also provide some details re cost of system plus install that would be of great help. Cheers.

Have sourced Varex variable exhaust for my Roush Active Exhaust, Liverpool Exhausts are going to Supply & fit them. They require a small modification (different flanges) & they are remotely operated. Happy Now:headbang:

Ok, half the exhaust done by a mate and myself in Qld (he also happens to have a hoist) Had them both fully open, but wasn't game enough to drive home to Gosford with them like that. So I bit the bullet and put the plates in to quieten them. Not willing to pay the extra $3000, just to make them an active exhaust. Might look into Varex Variable Exhaust? Surely they can be adapted????...

Did you drill a hole in the bottom of the Whiteline bush ki. This helps eliminate the noise which is caused by the transmission harmonics.

Xforce cat back with adjustable varex going on tomorrow.... fingers crossed its what i am hoping for
Interested to hear your thoughts on this one.

My magnaflow comp cat back is now in the shed, absolutely loved the deep note, but the cabin noise drove me mad. Bit the bullet and went x-force engine back with the Varex mufflers. The Varex was supposed to have the active smart box fitted but they have run out of stock so for now it has the remote which can only open or close the valves fully. With them fully open holy crap is it loud, for comparison I had the MF cat back which I thought was a bit loud but not too much, this is insane. Find myself short shifting to avoid the risk of getting pulled over, but fully closed sounds wrong. I went for a run in a car fitted with one with the smart box and it was great so hoping that once this is fitted up I will have the best of both worlds, open fully at idle and low rpm, then have the valves close as the revs climb to tame it down a bit. On long drives when you have passengers you can put it in Prius mode if you want, or open it right up and smile depending on who you have in the car:)

Make sure you give it some time before you make your judgement, I have 900 km on the clock since it was fitted and the note has changed a fair bit already and I am sure it will still deepen up with more k's. I remember the same thing with the MF, it took around 1500 km to settle in.

I know most of us have seen pictures of the factory headers, and I am not engine or exhaust expert but the flow of exhaust gases from the drivers side rear cylinder to me look like they are seriously compromised by that tee piece they have grafted in. Apart from the restriction of having the pipe from the cylinder in front of it having this 90 deg tee into the pipe, where the join is the internal pipe curls over adding even more restriction. Can't be good for the engine in the long term in my humble opinion, and the main reason for the headers, instead of persevering and trying to get what I had fitted already to where I wanted it to be.

So up to version 3 now and hopefully the last, this is first time I have done an aftermarket exhaust and learning by my mistakes, but having fun on the way. And no I am not related to our young friend on here with the dozen different exhausts..........

I had the X-Force cat back with the varex mufflers installed today.
It is also either open or closed no in between... that i didnt expect.
but am happy with the sound ... not loud at all inside the car even in fully open position UNTIL you put your foot down then she sounds like a V8.
In the closed position i think it is a little quieter than stranded and that is good as i park under our house and leave for work at 4am.
I do think it will change sound over time but i am happy so far.

Yep fully open at WOT is something else but bound to attract the wrong attention :)
The first one I saw - heard - was at a do that Sinclair put on one night.
I was positive that you could adjust it and not just open or close.

I ordered mine with the "smart box", they have an active system that you program from your phone to open the valves different amounts depending on engine rpm speed etc, it plugs into the OBD connector under the dash to get the information from the car.

As they had run out of the boxes for now it has the 2 button remote with only fully open and close on it, as a temporary measure. But I was also sure the standard one was variable, maybe I was wrong ......

I'm confused, how can a V8 ever be too loud? That said, people saying cabin noise is an issue, must have the wrong system? I can't stand systems that drone incar. Having to fit blanking plates seems like a poor bandaid fix too?

I've got the Borla ATAK and yeah, its fucking loud outside with the correct amount of throttle applied. But its got a good tone at light throttle and near stock on the hwy in 6th. Maybe it shows which companies put the effort into tuning a system as opposed to just slapping some pipe and mufflers together? I'd expect the other Borla models to be just as good, only much quieter in comparison.

Given the posts about fuel economy, most would have no issues driving with the ATAK at sensible volumes, however I'm completely incapable due to a disability in my right foot.

Hi John,

Did you get it done at Sinclair Ford?

I'm still keeping my options open but would like to put on a cat-back first and then be able to put the headers on at some time in the future.

i might go headers and high flow cats at a later date.
They told me they bolt straight up but take 8 to 9 hours to do.
