Does anyone know of a table or something like that that compares all the popular exhausts in terms of loudness? That would be real handy!!

I had Borla Touring Cat back fitted last week - has mid resonator. Whilst it sounds great and I get thumbs up out of car windows, and people coming up to me to tell me how awesome it sounds - deep tone, all that its just way way too loud. This is a US 2.5" system.
Way too loud even with a light throttle. Give it the welly and it is thunderous -very loud, impressive noise, nascar type rat a tat V8 AMG like blare (louder than an E63 but never raspy) - cop bait - I expect the blue-lights behind me in no time. My wife can hear me >300 mtrs away as I gently drive our street home.

The solution will be diff central resonator - the stock one must really pull the noise. So folks that listen to videos thinking its slightly amped up - nothing of the sort - its double/triple the noise, even more on full noise. Touring are the S type with mid resonator. EU/Aust versions are said to be quieter and his may be a solution.

It does not drone, but wider throttle openings in tall gears will give more cabin noise and would get tiresome. On freeway cruise throttle in cabin - it recedes to a whisper.

Now I have heard louder - a Magnaflow comp maybe cat back at Sirromet on a CO the other week - that is louder than this - nuts.
Thanks mate.

This is why I went for the Ford Racing Touring Axle Backs first.

Thanks this is good to know as I am currently looking around for a system that will give me a nice deep tone without too much noise but louder than stock.

I also have this system on order and due to arrive at the supplier next week.

Your experience is contrary to just about everything I have read - perhaps the Americans are more conditioned to exhaust noise than we are.

It would be interesting to see some sort of comparison video between the Borla Touring US and EU certified systems. Anyone come across anything so far?

From what I have seen on photos the GT350 valance seems to have built in sleeves for the pipes, if so then I would think only 2.5" pipes would fit.

The Roush and TrueFiber (below) have just an opening and will fit the Corsa quad or the Magnaflow quad (from CJPP). Note the Corsa is a bit of a fake in that the original Sport/any exhaust has a Y piece to spilt the single tip into the twin tips. I still love it though!
hey johnathan, how do you like the FP short throw shifter? did you drive the stock one for a while? thanks, tom

I do not understand this. I have the S-Type Sport AB's which I have now sold, but because I have them I was interested to hear one of our forum members at a meet who has exactly the same and it was not too loud at all. It was brilliant and that is supposed to be louder than the touring. I am wondering if they may have left some baffling out when it was manufactured?

Edit: Oh, Yoirs is Catback.... Thats why! I was referring to just Axle backs.

Ok, half the exhaust done by a mate and myself in Qld (he also happens to have a hoist) Had them both fully open, but wasn't game enough to drive home to Gosford with them like that. So I bit the bullet and put the plates in to quieten them. Not willing to pay the extra $3000, just to make them an active exhaust. Might look into Varex Variable Exhaust? Surely they can be adapted????...

I can't be sure, but I reckon at about 2800kms on the clock my exhaust got a new lease of life! I.e. It's a bit louder and growlier now - no idea why it would have just "switched on" unless it's in some way related to the 3000km change in fuel consumption that people have been seeing?!

They look great. I have been considering the same Roush system. Are you saying that with the blanking plates removed they are too loud? I love the deep sound they make in the video with the plates removed.

Pure stock.

I'm at 2900kms and I reckon the loud button turned on at 2800, so I'm still not really sure I'm not just imagining it!

It's ok, but needs a bit more :)
