Sorry you are the one getting smashed by all the questions, would you be able to clarify the statement above.

Are you talking about loudness (I can deal with) or drone, or both?
Windows were up?
Driving the roads I do daily is fine, and my love for the Magnaflow is still there, but at highway speeds not so good. I figured out that windows up is the problem. I always drive with the window down, even if it is raining I will have it open a little if it is not too hard, with my other half in the car she hates the windows being down even my side, so I had them up.

With the windows down you get the note from outside overpowering the noise coming in from underneath and through the boot, with the windows up the outside note is reduced but the noise the other way is not and is not as nice, it is very deep so does drone at some speeds and loads, which was not as noticeable when you hear the nice burble coming from the outside.

As there are not enough of them already on the internet I will try to get time to get onto the M7 or M5 with the go pro and record a comparison of windows up and windows down, just need to find the time.

Hope this all makes sense.

Has anyone gone down the path of looking at/purchasing the Ford Racing cat-back sport quad tip exhaust that comes with the GT350 rear valance?

I was looking into that one but now I will stick with Roush Quad Tip

I'm looking at this option, I'm a big fan of the Quad tip and the GT360 rear valance.

I made a thread here about quad exhausts and it has a few options listed there, I need to update it though.

Probably won't be purchasing until tax time though.

sigh, another dilemma, I thought I had my mind set already, but still not sure which cat-back to go with:

Borla S-Type OR Ford Racing Sport

Both sound great, I think personally I'm leaning a bit more towards FR as I like how it sounds idling (a bit deeper), while it still has that rasp on higher revs.

I'm only concerned about drone - has anyone had any experiences with either (or both)?

I know Borla are renowned for not droning.

Just going through the same problem, although saying that I've just brought the S Type, I was thinking maybe I should have gone with the Ford Racing Sport but after reading a few remarks i'm glad I went with the Borla S Type, the S Type is alittle louder than the Sport and the Sport also has a hollow sound to it, I've heard the Sport in person and it sounds fantastic so if the S Type is almost the same (which I gather it is) but alittle louder then i'll be well pleased.

Ok guys. No experience with this so I am putting the question out there.

I have a local (reputable and well known in the region) exhaust and performance center has given me a quote on a custom build exhaust for my Stang when it gets here. It will be modeled of the magnaflow, full stainless 3" cat to back with an x-pipe and quad tips. $1750. I would need to supply the valance.

Soooooo. Is anyone looking at custom built exhausts? Anyone had experience in this area? What do you think of the price?

My opinion only and there may be edge cases I haven't thought of but ide never buy a custom exhaust. These big exhaust companies put a fair bit into R&D, they know what works and what doesn't. Your local shop will have very little of that information. The price you have been quoted isn't far off what a real Magnaflow will cost.

Ide be keen to hear what others think.

My only worry would be drone TBH.

There's plenty of catbacks you can buy that have loose definitions of 'no drone', so it just feels like you'd be the R&D department for the local shop...

Exactly my thoughts, plus around that price you could buy one from the states which has already been tried and tested many times

I agree, big name brands would have spent a lot more time and effort on R&D and customising the exhausts to ensure it sounds up to their standards.

Also, they would have decades of experience with every specific car build, knowing what works best with each make.

Anyway, on a side note, I just found out that Ford Racing Sport is riddiculously expensive to get in AU (not exactly sure why), so I think I'm back to my initial choice of Borla S-Type...

Isn't the Borla s-type $2200 in Australia. If you import from CJ Pony it seems to be about $2000 with shipping and conversions etc. That is sort of what i am expecting to pay

Everyone seems to find much cheaper stuff than me.

I really like the Borls S-type and Touring. looking forward to hearing them both for real.

I think $2,200 from here is not bad, when I last checked, even from CJs, Borla S Type came out to be like $2,600: USD->AUD conversion + taxes (purchase over $1000AUD) + shipping (that itself was over $300 USD).

Sucks that importing anything from the US is so bloody expensive.

Did anyone try US mail box thing (where you get the US address)? I know the postage then takes a lot longer, but I imagine it would be a lot cheaper...?
