A WRX and an MPS sounds better than a C63....................

A C63 has one of the best sound stock exhausts period, it is up there with the Maserati Gran Turismo MC Stradale, Jaguar F type in my opinion.
C63 at WOT sounds absolutely horrible, hollow, barky rubbish.

Beauty is in the ear of the beholder as they say.

You ordered a ecoboost I assume.
No, a V8. Ecoboost doesnt have a particularly nice exhaust note IMO, but regardless, I just think Mustang = V8 so thats what I ordered.

Trying to find an exhaust that doesn't make it sound raspy and barky is proving to be a challenge because most Youtube videos seem to produce that effect.

Sounds like you prefer the pushrod style V8 sounds then. Something a bit 'duller' or deeper in sound, such as the LS series motors yeah?

I wonder how much similarity there is between the 2.3 Emoboost in the stang and the 2.3 from those MPS's...

Edit: quick google and wiki article confirms engines are related.

I 100% agree......they are loud and beefy for a stock merc "surprisingly loud" but they sound like a 253 thongclap kingswood.

I drove the new C63 AMG S shortly after it was released here, the sound actually wasn't that bad but it was nothing like the old engine. However the power the new one has is amazing, you can lose your license very very quickly in that car

Correct on the sound of the LS, but then I also like the Audi S4 V8 they had a while back. Anything that is consistent in tone regardless of throttle or revs.

Not surprised on the link between the EB 2.3 and Mazda's DISI 2.3, however they do sound very different. The Mazda is more like a boxer 4, with an exhaust.

Haha, no, I was actually talking about the last NA V8 in the previous model. :)
They sound great at idle and low throttle but WOT, just not a fan.

I guess one thing is for sure, there will be a variety of different sounding Mustangs which is a good thing.

"the vehicle must not emit noise exceeding, by more than 5 dB(A), the stationary noise level established for that vehicle when it was certified."

Which means, when the car was first certified to come into Australia a stock reading was made, it cannot go 5 dB's above that reading, so that pretty much makes all aftermarket exhausts not 'legal'

Any idea what the certified reading for our stock GT is? Or where to find this? It must be fairly close to 90.

I know it's 74db for the US, IIRC the aus reading was 84

Camo74x,

See below from an earlier reply!

Hi, I have attached an excerpt from the Australian Green Vehicle Guide. It shows the V8 GT at 85 & 87dB. Interesting that the auto is noisier than the manual!!!

I managed to grab a sound meter from work to do a stationary test per the second attachment on my car with the Corsa Sport catback fitted. At 3,900rpm (as suggested) I recorded a max dB of 100.7.

So sorry to say that it is way over the max allowable, but does support Corsa's figures of 15dB increase over stock.

I won't be changing my exhaust unless I get a lot of grief. But unless I drive like a maniac, hopefully the 'boys in blue' will leave me alone!
 Rob.

Well the betting god's were on my side and managed to turn $20 into $2100. Gonna pull the trigger on a Magnaflow street series catback exhaust for my Ecoboost :)
