I was just curious if it was coming on with a 200 cell cat as generally it's been my experience they're OK, mostly have issues with 100 cells. The performance between the two is marginal for street car and the 200 will smell a lot less as well.

Ah missed that. Do you know what cats are being used?
Nope how can I tell?

I've seen the smartbox in action, it is kinda cool and all controlled from an app on your phone. You can open the Varex to any %, with the slide of your finger. You can even set presets that automatically change your volume at certain revs and then maybe close futher at higher revs.

With the latest version of the Smartbox you can actually set it to function via GPS that works on a certain radius of approx 2km (whether this is adjustable I'm not sure) so you can set to automatically go quiet as you get close to home, or work, or your local cop station.

HOWEVER, there is a downside to the smartbox, it means opening up your phone whilst driving and waiting for the app to load up if you had locked your phone. So if you have a cop pull up next to you, in a panic you can't really do much without reaching for your phone. I think it's smarter to go without the smart box (:p), save the $500 and get the remote option so you can go instant close when required. I believe with the remote you can also gradually close as you press the button.
I was also under the impression you could gradually close the valves, but doesn't seem to work that way with the 2 button remote for some reason:shrug: Looking forward to getting the smart box fitted up when they have them back in stock, mine was supposed to have it but they ran out of them. Should be a way to hook up a "panic" button to close it if you need to, should not be that hard to hook up if it worries you.

I am ready to pull the pin on the Magnaflow, possibly get it installed Friday. Is there anyone that has one that can advise whether the cabin drone is actually that intrusive? I might go the street option and hope it's not too quiet and then change to Competition rear mufflers if it is.

The reason I am second guessing the Competition is because of said drone. I've had an XR6 Turbo that droned and I was fine with it, so not sure if other people's perspective is the same as mine.
MF comp cat back has a great sound, the Barry White of exhausts, best I have heard but cabin noise was too much for me, putting the factory resonator back in helped a bit but still got annoying after a while. If you were in Sydney to could take the one I pulled out and try it. As I have everything from the cat back you don't need to cut your original pipes so could bolt it up and if it doesn't suit, unbolt it and put the stock one back on pretty easily.

Just to clear up the CEL questions once and for all. Yes the engine light will come on if you change headers/cats. It won't come on just for simple Catback.

The reason it comes on is because most modern cars have 2 x o2 sensors. One before the cat and one after. Obviously with a high flow cat the emissions etc are going to be outside the parameters and hence the light comes on.

Having the light on is no issue as it doesn't put the car in limp mode etc, it is annoying and I guess if you did have another issue which caused the engine light to come on you wouldn't know as it's already on.

There are a couple of ways around it, the easiest is have your exhaust shop adjust the tune and turn off the second o2 sensor. They don't change any other parameters so while they still need to actually flash the computer in theory Ford would know it's been done but it still running the stock tune. If your shop doesn't know/can't do this - I'd find another shop.

The other alternative and what Xforce do is put in an 02 extender which you then plug the o2 sensor it. It means the sensor isn't right in the flow on the exhaust gases and hopefully means it falls within normal parameters and no engine light. Speaking with Xforce it works for them but I've used this method before and it's hit and miss. It will most likely get you a few days with no light, you could get a cheap scan tool and clear the codes every few days.

Hope that helps everyone!
Mine is an X-force and I have 1000 Km on it so far and no light, will plug in the OBD box an have a look if it has thrown up any codes when I get a chance, maybe they have disabled the CEL for that fault, if that is possible? After playing with the DRLs I had fault codes for the parkers, blinkers and drls when I had a look with Forscan, but none of them bought up any lights on the dash.

Now that's something I don't know how to work out. I always ask for 200 cell when I buy them now but don't know how you would work it out later.

Yeah the xforce o2 sensor extender they use seems to work quite well so I'd be surprised if they did turn it off on u in the tune

After 10 months of research and tens of hours spent on youtube since ordering my 'stang, I was ready to pull the trigger on the Borla S-Type.

Thanks to (Fred) Vogtland Mustang, today I was able to hear it in person and that only confirmed my decision. Fred gave me a really competitive price and I just could not refuse it but to make a deal on the spot. I've got my S-Type in the garage, eagerly waiting for the mustang to arrive in about a month or so.

I just met Fred today for the first time and I have no affiliation with him or his company, though if you're planning on getting a Borla, he's the go-to guy!

I'm waiting for the call for my Touring. Did you happen to hear a touring set up?

No I haven't as it's only tiny bit louder than the stock and very deep. I wanted a little bit of rasp on the higher end...

Sorry Phil, misread your post on the extender, I read it as the X force one is hit and miss and you have to clear codes every few days.

What effect does fitting an aftermarket exhaust (especially one that may not comply with noise emission restrictions) have on your comprehensive insurance policy?

I guess it depends on the individual insurer and their PDS, however I assume that they at least need to be informed as to what you have fitted/intend to fit.

I have advised them of every single modification - these are all listed on the policy. Every single one of them ( including badges and decklid panel ).

I wouldnt think you would ever have insurance issues with an exhaust. At the end of the day I doesn't render the car unsafe with a louder exhaust, and if it is a write off chances are they will never be able to actually hear your car run due to motor damage or even a rear ender will crunch up the exhaust.

I guess I should probably update mine as I haven't told them anything. I spose I'll do it once the blower goes on

Anyone in Sydney stock Rouse axelback? I was looking for Australian Mustang who used to be in Artarmon but they are no longer there.

Wondering if I should purchase it online and then find an exhaust shop to install it.
