I have those small black square wheel weights inside the barrels of my aftermarket wheels. Can they be peeled off and reused?

Seems like the black feature is what is rare around local tire shops. (Yes, I know that black comes in a spray can.)

Yeah they should be, they're just pieces of metal don't see why they can't be reused.

I have them spray painted before they install them. It used to be they'd do it, but when I put on my Project 6GR wheels, they didn't and I had to go back and the part shop they get the weights from happened to be managed by a guy in my mustang club and he painted them with some kinda high temp spray paint, I think. Don't think high-temp is necessary.

I don't think they make them in black or at least cheaply anymore. Just bring a can of black spray paint and give them a few spritzes and dry before installing.

Yeah, that was what I was envisioning doing.

Is it just double-stick PSA on the backside? Does that get ruined when pulling them off? Replace with 3m tape?

You can most certainly reuse them if you clean off the old double sided tape and replace it. Not sure why anyone would, new weights are part of the cost of balancing the tire so you are not going to save any money.

Depends but most shops have them and can apply new ones. For instance ours come with the adhesive on the bottom already.

They are too cheap to be cleaned up and reapply double sided tape so just put new ones one.

Sure they have them.

Just think this through with me. I show up with 4 wheels wanting to have the tires dismounted/remounted. My wheels are currently full of little black wheel weights.

I visualize them pulling all the weights off, and inflicting some scratches at no extra charge.
Then they balance my wheels with silver weights stuck on, and throw away the black ones.
Am I supposed to hand paint them with a brush when I get home?
Or do I get picky and demanding while I am just one of several other customers who are waiting on more important services on a Saturday?

Seems like I could either borrow/buy a handful of silver weights, take them home for spray painting, and then return with my kit after they are dry.
Or, pluck all of mine off, re-apply 3m tape to them, and then go to the shop.

What an ordeal just because I want black weights inside black barrels. :frusty:

Just go to a nicer wheel shop.

We have plastic scrapers to take the old weights off so that we don't scratch the wheels. If a customer requested black weights, we would figure out how to do that. Either black weights or a little bit of paint.

Just go to a nicer shop and communicate. You can't just drop off your car like everything is normal and then expect to get treated special.
