Like you I decided against going with Ceratec, as I didn't think it was necessary to use at each oil change. I decided to put in Liqui Moly Motor Protect on my first oil change (should be good for 30k) and Liqui Moly MOS2 at each oil change. I had heard the tick once before my first oil change (which was at 1k) and I haven't heard it since. I'm currently at about 2k miles.

Which is the motor protect, I didn’t find it on the site? What’s the difference between using the MOS2 and the Ceratec?

I bought the motor protect from here. https://www.europaparts.com/liqui-m...sVcyYhmQQa959iVly6OVEjVaxd8cDHKMaAuMcEALw_wcB

Take a look at this post about Liqui Moly products. It was the main reason that I decided to use Motor Protect and MOS2 instead of Ceratec. http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/show...f34feefe4b07917c711&p=1067365622&postcount=23

Basically Ceratec is a 2-part additive. 1) A high solids lubricant that gets flushed on each oil change and 2) a friction modifier that lasts for 30k miles.
Motor Protect takes the place of the friction modifier and was indicated to actually be better than the one in Ceratec (which is why I went with it). MOS2 is the high solids lubricant (though not as good as what's in Ceratec). In the end, I've decided to just keep replacing the MOS2 on each oil change since the Motor Protect was "supposed" to be better than Ceratec.

Great, thanks! Do you use their oil as well or just the additives?

I used to use Liqui Moly products on a VW I used to have, but haven't on a domestic car. Their products always had great reviews and I never had any issues with them.
