Why would you use a pump when you have to get underneath and change the filter anyway? Unless of course you're not changing your oil filter....which is a nifty idea.

I'm trying to figure out why you would want to pump the oil out since you still have to change the filter. I have to pump the oil out of my big blocks in my speed boat and I think its a pita every time. If its because it has a messy drain pug then you will be real disappointed with the oil filter. I changed my oil for the first time yesterday on the mustang and the filter location sucks plus its at and angle which makes a mess as soon as you break the filter loose.

Was thinking about picking up one of these. Anyone have any experience with them?

I use one of these for just about everything, and it works great. Might not get the very last drop out of the sump (as you might by leaving the drain plug out overnight), but if you fiddle around with the hose you can poke it around to get to different parts of the pan. I'd bet it gets darn near as much as a dealership would doing one of their quick oil change deals.

edit: While you're there, don't forget to pick up a bunch of their oil absorbent sheets. Made by 3M (I think the MMM part# is 151), these things suck up oil/gas/petroleum products like a camel in the desert. Oil Absorbent Sheets

I've had my Mityvac 7201 for close to a decade. Works great for my E39, where my oil filter is up top. That's said, I'm thinking about using it to replace the oil between full oil and filter changes.

Ok, I was able to extract 5 out of the 5.7quarts the manual states. That's 87.7 Percent of the capacity. I plan on using the method between factory recommended oil changes. I figure you have to lift the car when you replace the oil filter, so you might as well perform a conventional drain using the drain plug when performing the full oil and filter change.

This Mityvac method will be used in addition to the recommended service.
