I have used this style of pump before and it works great for fluids like engine oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid. I just don't remember the name of the brand.

I think I'm going to give it a try. I'll pull the drain plug after and see if there is anything worth while left in the pan. Have to go under to get the filter off anyway.

I have this one for my boat. That is a twin engine and holds 16qts total. Works like a champ.

I have found that using an oil change pump left oil on the bottom of the pan. The hose end usually has an angle cut to prevent it from locking onto the pan bottom, so not all of the oil pulled out. But at least, you have removed most of the old oil. I always change my filter when changing oil...so I or a mechanic are under the car anyway, so why not dump the oil at the same time as changing the filter.

I'd buy a mityvac. I have one and it not only works on oil, power steering fluid, etc it also does a great job at bleeding brakes. Makes it a one man job.

That's a good point about the beveled tip. I imagine you could get 95% of the old oil out. I like that it's also a storage container and should keep the mess of oil changes down. I'm doing an oil change this weekend but I'm just going to do it with a drip pan. No haven't looked under the car yet, can someone tell me which way the drain faces? I have a fairly steep driveway and want to face it so the drain is down hill. Thanks all.

If anything get a Qwik valve for the oil pan to elevate having to take oil pan bolt out and help with mess...but a pump, seems like a waste of money.

Looks just like the Tempo Oil Boy pump I bought from them a decade ago. It worked great on my VWs, but mine is the smaller model and doesn't have the volume for the Coyote.

Wouldn't it leave a little oil and or residue in a pit somewhere. Would that harm the coyote?

I think it would depend on how much is really left in the dump. If it's just a tiny bit, the 8 quarts going back in may dilute the little bit enough to not really pose an issue, but I think I'd still pull the plug at least one oil change a year just to play it safe. I've never used one, so I'll probably stick with the way I do it now.

While I like the idea of the valve, it sure as heck would have me worried all the time. The oil drain on this car sucks though. As soon as you start unscrewing the bolt, oil starts coming out. By the time you get the bolt all the way out you have a mess on your hands. Every car I've had before, the oil really wouldn't drain until right at the end when you pull the bolt all the way out.

I've had it on my
08 GTI
04 GLI
03 Evolution 8
03 Silverado
14 2500hd
And now my mustang.

Never had any issues with them.

On my truck however I have the spring lock on it since I do off-road and don't want to take the risk.

On the mustang it's worth every penny!
