Anyone here who feels guilty for tracking their car?

I guess catered more towards financing/owners, not leasing.

Even 20-30 second long pulls on a long stretch of highway, I start to feel guilty and pat my cars dash. I guess I've always babied things. I can't imagine driving it to the ground for like an hour straight or more at a track.

But I also want to, to get better at driving so I don't kill myself on the streets, and just to safely see it's limits. But I'm not sure if I can even enjoy myself. I'm probably being silly, but anyone else have this anxiety? How did you get over it?

-Always let the engine/transmission warm up.
-Don't do anything too stupid.
-If you make a mistake, it's probably your own fault, and the car would have otherwise been fine.
-If you run drag radials, you'll probably snap stock half shafts.
-Rev limiters were implemented for a reason.

As long as you run good lubricants and don't do anything too abusive, there's no reason to be afraid of tracking your car. Just expect some cost (brakes if doing road racing), and tires. A ton of launches will cause wear on the clutch. Otherwise, the car was built to be driven hard.

I think most guys in this forum would not feel bad for taking it to the track to see what the car can do! I am thinking of picking one up to run in 12.5 index once my other lease is up. Good to see so many bone stock cars running near that # already!

I'm getting my money's worth out of my GT. I've owned it for nearly 3 years and have a couple hundred timeslips racked up from our local dragstrips. Proper maintenance and common sense have kept it from breaking anything.

I don't have a Mustang yet but I will, and when I do, she will be at the track.

I had a 2008 Wrangler Rubicon. First time I got it stuck it still had temporary tags on it. :headbang:

My last car was a Pontiac Solstice GXP hardtop. Only 1266 hardtops made. Pretty rare and as such a used one goes for about twice what a soft top costs. That being said I didn't let the scarcity stop me from ripping and tearing in it. I took it to the drag strip, autocross school, and a track day. It had some hard miles and a couple cracks in the paint on the front fascia from a couple cones at the autocross school. I didn't regret a bit of it. I owned it for two years and while I took a little bit of a loss on it, I felt good knowing that I enjoyed it and that car put many smiles on my face.

I understand not wanting to destroy your car but you don't have to. If you want to go hard at the drag strip, you can upgrade axle shafts and other parts if you want to decrease the chances of breaking stuff. Auto cross is fun and I would say relatively easy on your car. A couple scuffs from cones never hurt anyone, it'll buff out. As for track days, if you are worried there are companies out there that will insure your car for a track day. Cost a couple bucks but if it gives you peace of mind go for it. Running hard at the track for a day is about as much fun as you can have outside of the bedroom, trust me.
