Of course I don't do this, what kind of undereducated Neanderthal would?

Nearly universally, we recognize the horn as the alert for situations involving vehicles. We recognize engine revving to be assholes or the insecure. If I'm alerting someone of danger, we can presume it may also involve me, and therefore I don't want to be in a situation where I'm explaining in a courtroom that I decided to rev my vehicles engine instead of using the properly designated alert tools.

I can't even imagine the justification for a "nicer/less rude" warning to someone about to cause you and themselves damage. Being "less rude" gets you "more damage".

To hell with all of this. When in doubt just lay on the horn and floor it. lol

Unless I'm in a convertible and you're running Zoomie headers I doubt I would even hear you. The Mustang is a modern car and with the windows up and my own stereo on the outside noise level is way down. If I did hear you I doubt I would pay any attention. I have a V8, I know what they sound like. I don't need to hear yours.

If my foot is touching the pedal and my hand is not touching the horn how is honking quicker. All I do is blip the throttle and that is only at a stop if the person in front of me has their head up their ass. So only if I am sitting still. When you are moving and trying to avoid an accident sometimes you don't have time to do anything.

So you make noise BEHIND you to alert the person in FRONT of you. 99/100 times, I bet the person in front of you doesn't hear shit unless they're in an old rattle trap or have their windows down.

Probably depends on the car.

I was cruising down to Clear Lake and kept hearing this "brap brap brap", I'd look around didn't see anything then off my rear view mirror I see a competition orange S550 charging down an exit ramp. So you might here him.

If you're sitting at a green light reading your phone when the car behind you, sitting silently, does one loud blip of the throttle, and then waits for you to finish your text before you set off at the light. That is a non-"look at me" rev.
Exactly ... and to answer kevitz further the relationship is directly proportional to the deepness of one's right foot into the accelerator.

Most of the extreme close calls I've had, I do neither. I'm more focused on keeping both hands on the wheel, and in gear if throttle/brake control is needed. Maybe I'm crazy for not honking, but when its a bang bang situation, i'm going to put all my energy into maneuvering my own car, not relying on the honk to dissuade the other person.

Now, if its not as close, lets say for example somebody pulling out a little too close in front of you, plodding along, cutting you off, etc, I don't honk as well in this situation, why? Because usually these type of drivers are in their own little bubble, think they aren't doing anything wrong, and the honk is just going to incite road rage. So once I can pass, I usually just give them a little blast of a rev matched downshift right when the rear of my car is right. Call it immature, but most bad drivers are beyond reason.
